University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire
Explanation of Transcripts
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Please see the University Catalog for additional accreditations specific to programs or units. The University has been known previously as Wisconsin
State University-Eau Claire (1964-71), Wisconsin State College-Eau Claire (1951-64), Eau Claire State Teachers College (1927-51), and Eau Claire
State Normal School (1916-27). As of July 1, 2018, the campus at Barron County (formerly a two-year campus of the University of Wisconsin
Colleges) became a branch campus of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and as such is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Official
records of enrollment at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire – Barron County through August 2019 are part of the University of Wisconsin Colleges
transcript. Information regarding prior transcripts for UW Colleges is available at https://barron.uwec.edu/solution-center/transcripts/.
Credit Hours: All credit hours on the transcript are computed in semester credits. All transfer or UW-Eau Claire courses taken on the quarter system
are converted to semester credits. One semester hour represents one hour of class or equivalent work per week for one semester. From 1916-42 the
University had an 18-week semester system; 1942-49, a 12-week quarter system; 1949-2016, a 16-week semester system; 2017 to present, a 15-
week semester system.
Repeat Policy: A course in which a grade of C- or lower was initially earned may be repeated once for a new grade which will replace the original
grade in calculating grade point averages. In exceptional circumstances, the Associate Dean of a College may give permission for the second repeat
of a course. The Associate Dean determines whether the grade earned in the second repeat will replace previous grades or will be averaged with
previous grades earned. In all cases, all grades will appear on the student’s official transcript. All work attempted appears on the transcript.
Cultural Diversity (ethnic studies) credits are identified beginning fall 1996 and “cultural diversity requirement met” is not noted prior to fall 1996.
Liberal Education - Design for Diversity courses meet the UW System ethnic studies requirement.
