WEEKLY INTERNSHIP REPORT

- Kavitha M
[Link]. Psychotherapy and counseling

Week 01: 11th August – 14th August 2025

Institution: V Excel Educational Trust

DAY 1 – Monday, 11th August 2025

The week began with the Krishna Jayanti celebrations at the school. Following the day’s purple
dress code, I was placed in a classroom with 10–15 students to observe their behavior,
interactions, and classroom dynamics. Later, I witnessed the cow feeding activity, where students
participated with great enthusiasm, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere. I also observed
the ongoing practice sessions for the upcoming Independence Day program and received updates
from staff about the color codes and events planned for the week.

Learning: This day helped me understand how structured observation can give valuable insights
into student behaviour and interactions. I also recognized the importance of cultural and festive
activities, such as Krishna Jayanti, in promoting joy, inclusivity, and engagement among students
with diverse needs.

DAY 2 – Tuesday, 12th August 2025

The day began with plant-based learning activities designed to stimulate students’ sensory and
cognitive abilities. I helped in arranging the classroom space and supported learners as they
explored plant textures, visual elements, and storytelling. Observing their behavioural responses,
attention levels, and social interactions gave me deeper insights into how multi-sensory teaching
methods foster engagement. In the later part of the day, I assisted in Krishna Jayanti–themed
activities, including the “pot breaking” event, and later supervised learners during Independence
Day practice, which was held according to the red colour theme of the day.

Learning: This session highlighted how multi-sensory approaches can make learning more
meaningful and interactive. I also learned the value of cultural integration and consistent practice
in building both social and academic skills.
DAY 3 – Wednesday, 13th August 2025

On the third day, learning extended outside the classroom through an outdoor visit to a children’s
park. The natural environment offered students opportunities to engage in gross motor activities,
sensory play, and experiential learning, which contributed to both their physical and social
development. Later, we attended a session with the school counselor, who emphasized the
institution’s inclusive philosophy and person-first approach in addressing the needs of
neurodiverse learners. The counselor also shared intervention strategies tailored to individual
differences. The day ended with a reflective discussion on goal-setting, encouraging us as interns
to plan personal and professional objectives for the internship period.

Learning: I gained an understanding of how outdoor environments can enhance learning and
development, as well as the importance of seeing students as individuals first rather than through
the lens of their disabilities. Additionally, I realized the value of setting professional goals for
growth during the internship.

DAY 4 – Thursday, 14th August 2025

The morning began with a singing session where the teacher initiated songs and motivated
students to participate individually. This activity created an enjoyable and relaxed environment,
highlighting the therapeutic benefits of music in promoting self-expression, improving mood,
and strengthening social bonds. In the afternoon, we attended the final rehearsal for the
Independence Day program. Students practiced their performances with guidance from staff,
which showed how structured group activities encourage teamwork, discipline, and confidence.
During the day, I also observed a situation where a student displayed strong emotional reactions,
and I noted how the staff managed it with patience and supportive communication, maintaining a
positive atmosphere.

Learning: I learned about the role of music in emotional and social development, the importance
of rehearsals for building discipline and teamwork, and effective strategies for handling
emotional challenges in an inclusive educational environment.
