American psychologist David wechsler designed first wechsler-bellevue intelligence scale, which become
popular as wichsler [Link] is the one of the most commonly used intelligence [Link] tests are not
knowledge based but they are skill [Link] are three different scales and they are designed for
adults, children and pre schoolers [Link] were needed as the previously designed IQ tests
became insufficient to measure the human intelligence of different age [Link] further refined
this IQ test and came up with WAIS or wechsler adult intelligence scale that was fit to measure the
intelligence quotients of adults .this scale however was also not suitable to assess the intelligence of
children of different [Link] there for came up with two different IQ tests for [Link] that
measured intelligence of school going kids and another for younger [Link] I simply discuss about
the three different wechsler [Link] named as WPPSI,WISC and WAIS.
WPPSI(wechsler preschool and primary scale of intelligence):
The WPPSI is a standardized assessment aimed to measure the cognitive development for children ages
2 years to 7 [Link] developed in [Link] version of the wechsler intelligence test is currently in its
forth edition reffered to as [Link] is descendent of the earlier WAIS and WISC [Link] it's
original publication the WPPSI has been revised three times in 1989,2002 and [Link] current
version,WPPSI -IV , published by Pearson education,is a revision of the WPPSI-R and the WPPSI-III .it
provides subtests and composite scores that represents intellectual functioning in verbal and
performance cognitive domains,as well as providing a composite score that represent a child's general
intellectual ability.
WISC(wechsler intelligence scale for children)
This test covers children from 5 to 16 years [Link] test was introduced as an offshoot of the wechsler-
bellevue intelligence scale and was introduced in [Link] test is often used to help with educational
placement, identifying gifted student and can also be used in conjunction with the wechsler individual
achievement test to help identifying students with learning disability or gap between academic
achievement and cognitive [Link] most recent version of the test is the WISC-V ,which was
released in 2014.
WAIS(wechsler adult intelligence scale)
This test covers teenagers from 16 years of age through [Link] current version of the test is the
WAIS-IV which was launched in [Link] WAIS scale has two parts.

[Link] consists six subtests.
a) test of general information-28 items
b) test of general comprehension -18 items
c) arithmetic reasoning-20 items
d) distinction between similarity-19 items
e) vocabulary-66 items
f) digit span- consists of both backward and forward.
On the performance section of the WAIS,it includes: picture succession, image arrangements, block
