DETAILED LESSON PLAN in Process and Landforms Along Plate Boundaries

The document outlines a detailed lesson plan for Grade 10 Science focusing on processes and landforms at divergent, convergent, and transform plate boundaries. Students will learn to identify, describe, and illustrate these processes and their impact on Earth's surface. The lesson includes activities such as diagram drawing, class discussions, and an assignment on specific landforms related to plate boundaries.

GRADE 10 – NEWTON (8:15AM – 9:00 AM)

GRADE 10 – MICHAELSON (10:50AM – 11:35AM)

DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10
I. OBJETIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Identify and describe the processes and landforms formed at divergent, convergent, and transform
plate boundaries.
b. Illustrate the processes and landforms associated with each type of plate boundary through
diagrams.
c. Develop an understanding of how plate boundary processes shape the Earth's surface and their
impact on human activities.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: Module 3: PROCESSES AND LANDFORMS ALONG PLATE BOUNDARIES
b. Reference: K to 12 Science Curriculum Guide
 Science textbooks relevant to Grade 10
 Educational videos or animations on plate boundaries and associated landforms
c. Instructional Materials: Photos and pictures from the internet, Laptop/ TV PowerPoint presentation

III. PROCEDURES
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. Preliminary Activities
Prayer The students will proceed to greet and then to

B. RECALL
Before we proceed to our topic let’s have a quick recap about
yesterday’s topic.
Write the correct word/s from the choices inside the parenthesis The student’s answers shall be:
to complete the sentence in each given item. 1. Divergent
1. Pacific plate and Nazca plate formed _______________ 2. North American plate
(convergent, divergent) boundary. 3. Eurasian Plate
2. San Andreas Fault is a transform fault boundary found in 4. Divergent
___________ (South American plate, North American plate). 5. Divergent
3. Philippine plate moves toward _______________ (African
plate, Eurasian plate) at the convergent boundary.
4. _______________ (Convergent, Divergent) is the type of
boundary between Australian plate and African plate.
5. The type of boundary between Pacific plate and Antarctic
plate is _______________ (convergent, divergent) boundary.

C. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson (Motivation)

a. Ask students, “How do you think earthquakes,
volcanoes, and mountain ranges are related to the
movement of tectonic plates?”
b. Show a short video or animation that demonstrates
various landforms and processes associated with plate The student’s answers may vary.
boundaries.
D. Lesson Proper
Processes and Landforms at Plate Boundaries:

a. Divergent Boundaries:
i. Processes: Plates move away from each
other, leading to the formation of new crust.
ii. Landforms:
1. Mid-Ocean Ridges: Underwater
mountain ranges formed by upwelling
magma.
2. Rift Valleys: Low areas formed by
the splitting of continental plates.
iii. Example: Mid-Atlantic Ridge, East African
Rift.
b. Convergent Boundaries:
i. Processes: Plates move towards each other,
leading to subduction or continental collision.
ii. Landforms:
1. Subduction Zones: Where one
plate slides beneath another, forming
deep ocean trenches and volcanic
arcs.
2. Mountain Ranges: Formed by the
collision and crumpling of continental
plates.
iii. Example: Mariana Trench (subduction zone),
Himalayas (continental collision).
c. Transform Boundaries:
i. Processes: Plates slide past each other
horizontally.
ii. Landforms:
1. Fault Lines: Cracks in the Earth's
crust where significant earthquakes
occur.
2. Offset Features: Features like rivers
or roads that appear displaced due to
horizontal movement.

Example: San Andreas Fault.

2. Illustrations:
• Use diagrams to show how each type of boundary
creates different landforms and how these features are formed.
E. APPLICATION
1. Diagram Drawing:
 Provide handouts with blank diagrams of plate
boundaries.
 Instruct students to draw and label the processes and
landforms associated with divergent, convergent, and
transform boundaries.
Instructions:
1. Draw divergent, convergent, and transform boundaries.
2. Label associated landforms such as mid-ocean ridges, rift
valleys, ocean trenches, mountain ranges, and fault lines.

Class Discussion:

1. Review the diagrams created by students.

2. Discuss how each landform is formed and the processes
involved at each type of plate boundary.

GENERALIZATION

1. Summary of Key Points:

 Recap the processes and landforms associated with
divergent, convergent, and transform plate boundaries.
 Emphasize the significance of these processes in
shaping the Earth's surface.

IV. EVALUATION
Answer the following questions. Write it on your notebook.
o “What are the primary landforms associated with divergent plate boundaries?”
o “How do convergent boundaries create mountain ranges?”

V. ASSIGNMENT
Search a specific landform or geological feature associated with plate boundaries and prepare a brief
report or presentation on its formation and significance.
