1. Description

The SECU electronic controls are bidirectional energy recovery drives for speed regulation of excited motors.
separate in direct current. High-frequency static control eliminates the need for operating relays and ensures maximum
silence.
The line relay provides protection against polarity reversal and ensures compliance with current safety regulations.
A microprocessor completely manages the control operation, calculating in real time the adjustment of the field and rotor in
function of the set parameters and load conditions.
The calibration is customizable via a personal computer or programming console: by modifying the parameters, it is possible to optimize.
the dynamic response with any separately excited motor model.

Operating principle of the separately excited motor

This type of motor consists of a rotor winding and a field winding that require separate power supply. The inversion of the
The sense of rotation is obtained by acting on the direction of the current in one of the two windings.
In principle, in a separately excited motor, the torque is proportional to the field current and the rotor current; the
The rotational speed of the shaft is proportional to the tension applied to the rotor and inversely proportional to the field current.
maximum power delivered can be translated similarly to what happens with a mechanical gearbox. Coordinating appropriately
Field and rotor regulation allows for high torque at low speeds along with high power at maximum.
speed.

Operation of the SECU

The SECU supplies the rotor through a half-bridge and performs the inversion and regulation of the field current using a bridge.
Entire. The power part is made with MOSFET.
Varying the position of the accelerator from minimum to maximum, the SECU applies a voltage to the rotor that starts from zero and reaches that.
of the battery and simultaneously regulates the field current from the nominal value to the minimum value. If the required torque produces a
rotor current above the threshold of compensation start, the current in the field is increased, up to the maximum field value
at the corresponding rotor current equal to the end of compensation threshold.
The value of the field current supplied will therefore be calculated based on the requested torque and the supplied modulation.
When the machine is "launched" into operation at nominal conditions, the rotor current should not exceed the current
nominal declared by the manufacturer to prevent excessive overheating of the engine.
The maximum speed must be achieved with the rotor powered at 100%, meaning no speed reduction activated, and with a
minimum field current that does not fall below the minimum value indicated by the motor manufacturer.
The described 'electronic switch' function is possible only if the motor has a minimum and maximum field current in addition to that.
nominal.
In modifying the calibrations, it is advisable to always refer to the engine's construction data. Operation with currents
different from those for which the engine is designed can lead to drops in performance and anomalous operations, potentially leading to its failure.
damage.
For specific needs, it is possible to create a customized mapping of the rotor and field delivery curves.

General warnings and precautions

• Do not connect equipment to SCR (chopper, inverter, etc.) to the same battery used by the SECU because of the disturbances produced.
they can send it in bulk or even damage it.
• Do not use battery voltages different from those nominal for which the equipment was designed.
• Do not use power supplies or rectifiers to power the system as, during braking, the SECU generates current and
a battery is needed to absorb this energy.
• Always consult the technicians for special applications or different from those for which the equipment was designed.
• With battery voltages from 36V to 96V, for the relays that perform the line, power steering, and auxiliary relay functions, it is recommended
to mount the magnetic ceilings to have less deterioration of the contacts.

For a correct installation

• Fix the SECU control on a flat, clean, and unpainted metal surface.
On the contact surfaces, spread a layer of thermal conductive grease to allow for better heat dissipation.
• Install the equipment as protected as possible from water and dust.
• Do not use the vehicle frame as an electrical conductor.
For connecting to the battery and the motor, use cables and plugs suitable for the motor's power.
• Keep the cables short and side by side in the battery - SECU path.
• Plan to disconnect the battery from the system during battery charging.

8. Special functions

Acquisition of the field

The field acquisition is a procedure that detects the characteristics of the engine and is necessary each time the engine is replaced.
It is enabled through the parameter Code 017A:
− The line relay closes and the LED stays continuously lit for less than a minute.
− if the procedure is completed successfully, the LED turns off and the control is ready to operate, in case of error the LED
flashes (refer to the error diagnosis section).

Potentiometer acquisition
To execute the acquisition of the potentiometer, set parameter Code 0700 to 'ENABLED' (refer to the 'Calibration of
parameters”), exit the calibration and perform the following procedure.
Keep in mind that in the indicated sequence, the first driving command entered must be FORWARD MOVEMENT.
1. command the forward movement (in the case of head-on collision, press the butterfly in the direction of forward movement).
2. Bring the adjustment to the maximum in forward motion, wait a moment, then return to zero.
3. command the reverse (in the case of collisions, press the butterfly in the direction of reverse).
4. bring the reverse adjustment to the maximum, wait a moment, then return to zero.
During the entire phase, the indicator LED remains on to indicate that acquisition is in progress.
If the procedure is not completed within a minute, the LED will signal the error with 12 flashes: by turning the key off and on again, the SECU
it will re-propose the acquisition of the potentiometer with the LED lit steadily.

Battery discharge with speed reduction

To prevent the control from suddenly going into a low battery error during use and to avoid excessive battery drain,
As the minimum operating tension approaches, a gradual reduction of the maximum speed has been introduced that allows
to the user to continue moving and possibly return the vehicle to the charging station.

9. Settable functions in Elektrosistem

The functions described below can only be modified by contacting the Elektrosistem technicians. There are also functions
specifications for specific needs that are enabled upon customer request.

• It is possible to perform a more accurate calibration using parameters not provided in the standard menu to improve the
behavior and performance of the vehicle.
• The control programming includes the safety functions required by current regulations for electric vehicles.
It is possible to disable these functions if they are not provided for by the regulations to which the customer refers and if
they should create problems.
• It is possible to build a two-motor system with steering control.
• It is possible to customize the minimum and maximum battery voltages.
• It is possible to program operation without a potentiometer: the maximum adjustment is provided at the drive command.

Note
•All voltage measurements are referred to the battery negative, performed with the key inserted and the gearshift in neutral.
•All resistance and continuity measurements of the components must be performed with the battery disconnected and capacitors discharged: for
do not damage the instrument, connect a 10Ω resistor between +Vb and -Vb of the SECU for at least 5 seconds.

Checks on the potentiometer

In 'Normal conditions', with reference to the -Vb connection of the control, the following voltages must be read on pins 7, 8, and 9:
• Pin 9 (Red/Black) = 0V
• Pin 7 (White/Blue) = approximately 5V
• Pin 8 (White/Yellow) = 0V. [With the gear selector in neutral to prevent accidental starts, pressing the accelerator the
voltage must rise linearly to about 5V.
In the absence of such tensions, check the continuity of the wires corresponding to the pins and the status of the potentiometer. If necessary, contact.
assistance.

Centering of the potentiometer

In case of replacing the potentiometer, mechanical centering must be performed, which can be done in two ways:
• ohmic: disconnect connector A from the control. Measure the resistance between the White/Yellow wire (potentiometer brush) and
Red/Black (extreme negative of the potentiometer). With the accelerator at rest, the resistance should be close to 0Ω.
while pressing it all the way it must rise to 5KΩ.
• voltmeter: connect connector A to the control. With the key inserted and gear controls in neutral to prevent movement of
half, measure the voltage between the White/Yellow wire (potentiometer brush) and Red/Black (negative terminal of the
potentiometer). With the accelerator at rest, the voltage should be close to 0V, while pressing it down fully should
rise to about 5V.

Checks on the engine

Perform the tests with the motor cables disconnected.
• Check the electrical continuity between the rotor terminals, between the field terminals, and between the motor cable terminals.
• Check that the resistance between the motor terminals and the frame is greater than 3MΩ.
• Check that the two windings of the motor are not shorted.

Check frame insulation

• Check that the frame is not connected or leaking to the positive or negative of the battery.
• Check that the frame is not in contact with the engine terminals.
