Design of 500000 liters capacity reservoir

Dimenssions of tank for required capacity.

Capacity net required as per=500000liters=500 cum
Provide 12.5 m internal dia and 4.3m depth excluding free board
So Gross volume comes to =0.7854x12.5²x4.3m=527.69cum

Deductions:On account of:

Dead storage=0.7854x12.5²x0.15=18.41cum
Base plaster=0.7854x12.5²x0.02=2.45cum
Wall plaster=3.141x12.5x4.3x0.02=3.377cum
Haunch at base=3.141x12.5x0.5x0.09x1.1=1.943
Total deduction=26.18cum
Net volume available=527.69 - 26.18=501.51 cum
Excess volume provided=501.51 -500=1.51 cum to take care of other minors
if any.Provide free board of 400mm over FSL level

Design of Ventilator M = 30
Provide 900 mm internal dia with 750mm height ventilator at apex of dome.
Ventilator is a very minor member, so provide 100mm thick wall &75mm
thick cover slab.Povide 8mm dia rod with 150mmc/c in both direction in cover
slab and wall of the ventilator
Provide300mmx300mm size opening of 3nos with wire netting

Load due to of ventilator

Cover slab=0.7854 x1.3x1.3x0.075x25 =2.49kn
Live load on slab=0.7854 x 1.3 x 1.3x0.75 =1
Wall=3.14x1X0.1X0.575X25=4.51
Vent beam=3.14x1.075x0.175x0.175x25=2.58
Total 10.58kn Say=11kn

Roof dome M= 30
r = 6.25 m, h =2 m, r1 =0.45 m
R =10.766m, q=35.49 and q'=2.4 degree
LL = 0.75 kn/m², t =0.125 m Finishes=0.5 kn/m²
W total (UDL)=4.375kn/m² = DL + LL + Finishes

Maxm comp stress= 116.32 / 125 =0.93 n/mm²

Maxm hoop ten stress = 69.26 / 125 =0.55 n/mm²
Stresses are well within permissible limit.
Minimum of stee required =0.24%=300mm²
provide 8mm dia @165c/c both way mesh
Ast provided =305mm²
To take care of effect of Secondary forces & moments at base of dome, thicken the dome
to 0.16m at base duly tapered to 0.125m at a distance of 1000mm. Provide 8 tor extra radial
at top face @ 165c/c with 8 tor extra rings @ 165 c/c within this 1000mm width.

Also to take care of local hoop tension at apex of dome provide 8mm tor extra rings
@150c/c within a distance of 1000mm measured from vent ring beam.

Vent Ring Beam: RB-A – 175x175mm M- 30

Provide 2nos 10mm dia tor at each top & bottom with 8tor rings @ 175 c/c.
It is a very minor member and subjected to comp.
Ring Beam: RB-B M- 30 325x350mm size
Hoop tensile force =26.44x cos 35.49 x 6.25=134.55kn
Ten stress =134.55 x 1000 / 325x350 =1.18n/mm²< 1.5
Ast reqd = 134.55 x 1000/130 =1035mm²
Provide following circular rods in beam
Provide 16dia tor of 4 nos .
Provide 12dia tor of 4 nos .
Ast provided=1257mm²
Provide 8 mm dia ringa @ 200 mm c/c rings
