CLASS 9 SCIENCE – FORMULA & QUICK NOTES (APPROX.

10 PAGES)

PAGE 1 – MOTION FORMULAS

• Speed = Distance / Time

• Velocity = Displacement / Time

• Acceleration (a) = (Final Velocity – Initial Velocity) / Time

• v = u + at

• s = ut + ½ at²

• v² – u² = 2as

• Distance-time graph slope = speed

• Velocity-time graph slope = acceleration

• Area under velocity-time graph = distance

PAGE 2 – FORCE & LAWS OF MOTION

• Force = mass × acceleration (F = ma)

• Momentum = mass × velocity (p = mv)

• Newton’s Laws:

– 1st Law: Law of inertia

– 2nd Law: F = ma

– 3rd Law: Every action has equal & opposite reaction

• Impulse = change in momentum

PAGE 3 – GRAVITATION

• Universal Law: F = G(m1 × m2) / r²

• g = 9.8 m/s²

• Weight = mg

• Pressure = Force / Area

• Thrust = force applied normally on a surface

• Archimedes Principle: Buoyant force = weight of displaced fluid

• Density = mass / volume

PAGE 4 – WORK, ENERGY, POWER

• Work = Force × displacement

• 1 Joule = 1 N × 1 m

• Power = Work / Time

• Kinetic Energy = ½ mv²

• Potential Energy = mgh

• Mechanical Energy = KE + PE

• Law of conservation of energy: Energy cannot be created/destroyed

PAGE 5 – SOUND

• Speed = wavelength × frequency (v = λ × f)

• Echo time = 2d / v

• Human hearing range: 20 Hz – 20,000 Hz

• Ultrasound > 20 kHz

PAGE 6 – MATTER IN OUR SURROUNDINGS

• Temperature conversions:

– °C to K: K = °C + 273

• Latent heat:

– Fusion: ice → water

– Vaporization: water → steam

• Diffusion: particle movement from high to low concentration

PAGE 7 – ATOMS & MOLECULES

• 1 mole = 6.022 × 10²³ particles

• Molar mass = mass of 1 mole

• Number of moles = Given mass / Molar mass

• Molecular mass = sum of atomic masses

• Law of conservation of mass

• Law of constant proportion

PAGE 8 – STRUCTURE OF ATOM

• Electron (–), Proton (+), Neutron (0)

• Atomic number (Z) = no. of protons

• Mass number (A) = protons + neutrons

• Isotopes = same Z, different A

• Isobars = same A, different Z

• Bohr model: e– revolve in shells

PAGE 9 – CELL & BIOLOGY QUICK NOTES

• Cell theory:

– All living things are made of cells

– Cell is structural & functional unit

– All cells come from cells

• Types:

– Prokaryotic

– Eukaryotic

• Plant cell vs Animal cell differences

• Cell organelles:

– Mitochondria: powerhouse

– Nucleus: control center

– Ribosome: protein synthesis

– Vacuole: storage

PAGE 10 – NATURAL RESOURCES & EXTRA NOTES

• Renewable vs non-renewable resources

• Water cycle stages:

– Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation

• Ozone layer: protection from UV

• Greenhouse gases: CO■, CH■, N■O

• Sustainable development: meet needs without harming future
