Becky: I want to buy my first home video game console, but I can’t decide
between the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. Which do you
recommend?
Tim: That’s a difficult question. The PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One
are both popular video game consoles, and they have got a lot in
common. Both have a stylish appearance and a similar price tag.
Also, both consoles last between six and eight years before you
need to replace them. The main difference is the company that sells
them. The PlayStation was developed by Sony, the Japanese
electronics giant, in 1994. The Xbox was developed by the
American manufacturer Microsoft in 2001. But by that time, the
PlayStation had already been around for seven years, and it had
become popular all over the world. I own the Xbox One, mainly
because I live in the US, and it’s the most popular home video
game console here. Most of my friends have an Xbox, and I used
to play it growing up, so it was a natural choice for me.
Emma: Both the Xbox and PlayStation offer an enjoyable gaming
experience. But there are a few things you should be aware of. Only
the PlayStation 4 uses Bluetooth technology, which allows you to
connect the console to wireless headphones and other accessories.
That’s an advantage. Also, it focuses more on games that tell
a story and make the players feel emotionally involved, such as
God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man. That was the deciding factor
for me, and that’s why I bought the PS4. But both are great!
Ben: Many gamers have asked this question, an there’s no definitive
answer. For me, an important factor is the games that are available on
each platform. The Xbox One allows you to play games from
previous versions of the console. That’s an advantage for fans of
older games. Two of my favourite games, Halo and Gears of War,
are only available on the Xbox, so that’s the one I chose.
I recommend checking which platform offers your favourite games. If
they’re available on both platforms, buy the cheaper one. Good luck!
