The Indian Institute of Welding

Guidelines for formation of Students’ Chapter under the aegis of a Branch

The Students’ Chapter of the Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) has been constituted to meet the following objectives:

❖ Create awareness on Welding applications and the latest developments.


❖ Explore the career opportunity for the students’ community in the welding field.
❖ Provide an opportunity to students in networking and organizing workshops / seminars in this field.
❖ To promote the interest in Welding Education among Engineering Students and qualify them for R&D in the field of
Welding Technology.

Requirements:
❖ The institute / college preferably be a member of IIW-India as an Industrial Corporate Member (ICM) – Class III.
❖ Minimum 1 of the faculties of the institute / college to be the member of The Indian Institute of Welding.
❖ Minimum 10 students of the institute / college to be the Student Member of The Indian Institute of Welding. More
number of students to be encouraged to be the part of the Students’ Chapter.

Activities:
❖ To conduct Periodic technical talk to the student members in their institute / college with the help of the parent
Branch.
❖ To conduct yearly seminars / workshops and certification programmes in welding technology by the student members
at their premises.
❖ To conduct AM-IIW programme classes to the student members at their college premises with the support from the
parent Branch.
❖ To allow the student members to attend International, National and Branch Seminars / Welding Meets of The Indian
Institute of Welding with a concessional delegate fee.
❖ To organise for the students to go for educational tours / visit to various welding / fabrication industries for the case
study, and to other educational institutes for upgrading their knowledge in the field of welding and to the latest
technology being used in welding.
❖ Arrange Guest lectures, presentations etc. from industry experts.

The parent Branch will provide necessary support to the Students’ Chapter for organising the activities stated above.

Executive Committee of the Students’ Chapter consists of the following Office-Bearers:


1. Chairman
2. Secretary
3. Treasurer
4. Three Executive Committee Members

❖ The Chairman to be from the institute / college – one of the faculty members of The Indian Institute of Welding.
❖ Chairman should be the representative to the parent Branch.
❖ Secretary, Treasurer and 3 committee members to be from the student members.

General requirement for the formation:


❖ In the Branch Annual General Meeting, the Secretary of the attached Students’ Chapter will brief the activities carried
out by them during the year, with Power Point presentation.
❖ The parent Branch to help the attached Students’ Chapter to deliver technical talk by any member / expert, when
organised by the Chapter.
❖ The parent Branch to help the Students’ Chapter members for industry visit in their respective area. The Students’
Chapter members to arrange for travel / food etc. by themselves, for such visits.
❖ The parent Branch to help / support Students’ Chapter attached with it for seminars / workshops.
❖ The parent Branch to help organising faculty members for AM-IIW exam classes for the Students’ Chapter members.
