* Question no. 9 carries 2 marks. [1×2=2]

9. Differentiate between oxidation and reduction reaction with one example each.
(OR)
9. What is water of crystallization? Give two examples of molecules that contains
water of crystallization.
* Question no. 10 and 11 carries 3 marks each. [3×2=6]
10. What is decomposition reaction? Explain types of decomposition reaction with
suitable examples.
11. Give scientific reason for the following statements:
(i) Baking soda is used in bakeries for making bread and cake soft and spongy.
(ii) Care should be taken while mixing water and acid.
(iii) pH is an universal indicator.
(OR)
11. (i) How is gypsum converted to plaster of Paris? Write the reaction.
(ii) Mention the uses of plaster of Paris.
(iii) What will happen when we add water to plaster of Paris? Write the reaction.

* Question no. 12 carries 5 marks. [1×5=5]

12. With reference to preparation of sodium hydroxide:
(i) Name the method used for preparation.
(ii) Write the chemical reaction involved.
(iii) Write two uses of any one products obtained during the reaction.
(iv) Describe the process using diagram.
(OR)
12. (i) Define indicator.
(ii) A student is given turmeric powder, what changes will he observe when he
adds solution of acid and base to it?
(iii) How is the concentration of H+ ion related to pH?
(iv) What are dilute and concentrated acid.
(v) Write example of neutralization reaction.

* Question no. 13 is a Case Study Based question. Read the passage carefully and answer the
questions given. [1×4=4]
13. Consider the following situations of daily life and think what happens when milk
is left at room temperature during summers. an iron tawa/pan/nail is left exposed to
humid atmosphere. grapes get fermented. food is cooked. food gets digested in
our body. we respire. In all the above situations, the nature and the identity of the
initial substance have somewhat changed. Whenever a chemical change occurs,
we can say that a chemical reaction has taken place. The substances that undergo
chemical change in the reaction (1.1), magnesium and oxygen, are the reactants. The
new substance is magnesium oxide, formed during the reaction, as a product. A
word-equation shows change of reactants to products through an arrow placed
between them. The reactants are written on the left-hand side (LHS) with a plus
sign (+) between them. Similarly, products are written on the right-hand side (RHS)
with a plus sign (+) between them. The arrowhead points towards the products, and
shows the direction of the reaction.
(i) What are the changes that takes place when a chemical reaction takes place?
(2 points)
(ii) Using chemical reaction justify that Respiration is an exothermic process.
(OR)
(ii) Balance the given chemical equations:
(a) C3H8 + O2  CO2 + H2O
(b) K2PO4 + AlCl3  KCl + AlPO4
