Meaning of EMPLOYEE WELFARE
Employee or labour welfare is comprehensive term including
various services, benefits and facilities offered to employee by the employer.
The basic purpose of employee welfare is to improve the lot of
the working class and thereby make a worker a good employee and a happy citizen.
Welfare measures may be provided not only by employers but
by the government, trade unions and other agencies too.
Welfare measures are in addition to regular wages and other
economic benefits available to employees under legal provisions
DEFINITION
According to Dr. parandikar,
labour welfare work is work for improving the health, safety and general well being and the industrial efficiency of the worker beyond the minimum standard laid down by labour legislation.
IMPORTANCE
Enables workers to have a richer, more
healthier and satisfied life.
Raises the standard of living of the workers
by indirectly reducing the burden on their pocket.
Employee welfare measures increase the
productivity of organization and promote healthy industrial relations thereby maintaining industrial peace.

Absorb the shocks injected by economy on

Promotes a sense of belonging among workers,
preventing them for resorting to unhealthy practices like absenteeism, labour turnover, strikes, and other evil practices etc.
Types of Welfare Facilities
Welfare facilities can be largely categorized into two types:
Intramural facilities: These are provided within
the establishment such as rest centres canteen, uniforms etc.
Extramural facilities: These are activities which
are undertaken outside the establishment such as child welfare, transport facility etc.

The factories act,1948 ,the plantation labour
