Understanding the Eclectic Approach in Teaching

The Eclectic Approach is a combination of different learning approaches that allows teachers flexibility in choosing techniques that suit their teaching purposes and student needs. It developed as a reaction to the many rigid teaching methods of the 1970s and 1980s. Under the Eclectic Approach, teachers are free to employ relevant techniques from a range of language teaching methodologies and borrow from multiple methods, adapting them to fit their students' strengths, learning styles, and situations. When done effectively, this eclectic method can help students understand the target language.
