Cyberbullying involves bullying that occurs online or through electronic means. It can include sending threatening messages, tricking someone into revealing personal information and sharing it with others, posing as another person to hack accounts, and using websites to make fun of peers or teachers. Research shows that around 16% of high school students were electronically bullied in the past year, though accurate data is difficult to collect due to rapid changes in technology use among youth. Cyberbullying can negatively impact victims by causing them to have lower self-esteem, receive poor grades, skip school, have increased health problems, and use alcohol or drugs.
