CO2 on atmospheric pressure and 0C is a gas without smell and
color which height is 1.5 times higher then air.
CO2 can be gas, liquid and solid state depends of temperature and
pressure.
Concertation from 2-2.5% is not dangerous for health, at 3 % we feel
little unconsciousness and 5.6% is dangerous for human life.
CO2 reduce amount of oxygen (remove it) from triangle.
Fixed CO2 system is most used for extinguish fire in the engine room
and cargo holds.
Steel we used for bottle of CO2 which is in liquid state inside.
On entrance at any space which extinguish by CO2 we must provide a
warning board.
At least 30% of space which extinguished by CO2 must be filled.
Two way of measuring amount of CO2 inside of bottles:
1 Put bottle on scales
2 With radioactive isotope ( then we measure level with insturment)

- Inside of bottle must be putted special gas (Hyazinth) in case of


leakage of CO2 inside CO2 room.
PROCEDURES BEFORE EXTINGUISH WITH CO2
Be secure that all persons leave the space.
Opening door on CO2 cabinet alarm will be sounded, which must be
different from any other alarm onboard.
When person hear the alarm must leave the space immediately via
shortest route.
Must be ensured complete closing of space, all fuel valves also, air
fans etc.

All time must be alarm while CO2 come out from bottles
SOME REGULATIONS FROM FIRE SAFETY
SYSTEM CODE
Cargo ships must minimum 30% of volume of largest cargo space to
be fill
35% of the gross volume of the largest machinery space protected
For container and general cargo spaces (primarily intended to carry a
variety of cargoes separately secured or packed), the fixed piping
system shall be such that at least two thirds of the gas can be
discharged into the space within 10 min.
