SYNOPSIS
• The main aim of Library Management System is to computerize the library.
Necessitated details such as Book Name, Author Name, Publication, Price, Members
etc are stored in the database and retrieved as per the requirement.
• The system produces the report, which satisfies the need of the smart card
management. The system is developed using [Link] and SQL Server 2010.
• The system is designed in modular way.
• The system is divided into five modules. They are Member Information, Publication
Details, Book Issue, Returns and Renewal Books Search. This system provides
separate interface and login for librarian, students and faculties.
• Librarian can modify database.

• Using the Library Management system, user can also maintain the late fine of library
member who return the issued book after the due date. Users can search for books
and renewal books online.
• In the proposed system, we assume that each member will be having a identity card
which can be used for the library book issue, fine payment etc.
• The project entitled “Library Management System” manages all the transactional
requirements of the library.
• smart card number which can be recharged through admin and can also be used in
Library for book management and fine payment by students on late return of book.
• This will help to overcome the tedious manual work by replacing it with digital
technology of smart cards.

achieved with minimum cost and maximum of resources.
• The transactions can be deal easily with SQL Server 2010 tools, critical information
can be handled using the tools. As [Link] tool, the users can handle it very easily
and it is also simple to understand.
• This automated smart card also helps the management to provide wit the latest
publications, authors and the encyclopedia also.

• Library Management system is developed to automate the task of entering the records
of new book and retrieving the details of book available in the library.
• This system contains list of all the books. Using this system user can issue book to the
library member, maintain their records, and can checks how many book are issued and
how many books are available in the library.

EXISTING SYSTEM
• Existing system is a manual system, which means all works are done manually.
• All the work such as member details, book details, fine slip, etc is done Shortcuts
Keyboard Entry that leads complex to memory enter the details on form based process.
• Since all reports have to be done detail entry it is time consuming process.
• All the details are maintained in the complex ledger.
• In our existing system all the transaction of books are done manually, So taking more
time for a transaction like borrowing a book or returning a book and also for searching of
books.
• Another major disadvantage is that to preparing the list of books borrowed and the
available books in the library will take more time, currently it is doing as a one day
process for verifying all records.
DRAWBACKS
• While accessing the system if the server goes down data fetching would be difficult.
• Initial investment required in hardware.
• Training needs to be given to admin’s and student’s in initial phase.
• Barcode scanner will be needed each and every system, increasing cost.
• In case of theft/lost anyone can use the card without the knowledge of user.
• If the id is not properly scanned the student will be in a big trouble as he will not be
able to clear his dues
PROPOSED SYSTEM
• The “Library Management System” mainly focuses on basic operations in a library
like adding new member, new books, and updating new information, searching books
and members and facility to borrow and return books.
• This project has many features which are generally not available in normal Library
Management systems like facility of user login and a facility of user’s login.
• The user is able to generate different kinds of reports like lists of user registered, list
of books, issue and return reports.
• “Library Management System” is designed to help users maintain and organize
library.

• Proposed system is an automated Library Management System.
• It also has a facility of admin login through which the admin can monitor the
whole system.
• Using this system student can login system online and after logging in their
accounts can see list of books issued and its issue date and return date.
• Through our software user can add members, add books, search members, search
books, update information, edit information, borrow and return books in quick
time.
ADVANTAGES
• It provides security as it cannot be tampered so the only way to access the
information is by using PIN code.
• This system is accurate, fast and more efficient.
• Smart card is been encrypted and given unique id,
• Hence, the information is protected and easy book search options.
• Days limit and Fine set up can be customized.
• Report generation such as returned and non-returned books is very easy.
