Student-based road safety research
project
VeloCITY 2017:
Seoul - Busan
A PROPOSAL FOR:
South Korea Tourism Organisation
Kulliyyah of Languages and Management
(KLM), International Islamic University
About VeloCITY Seoul –
Busan 2017
“This year, students from Faculty
of Languages and Management
(KLM) of The International Islamic
University Malaysia (IIUM) is
organising a global road safety
study, with South Korea chosen
as the first case study. And we
want you to be part of it!
The 660 km journey will utilise the Han
River cycling route, covering the distance
in a week. A team consists of volunteer
students will take up the challenge to
cycle across the country and to prepare a
written report on road safety practices in
the country for the university.
Objectives
This project aims to promote
South Korea as a bicycle
friendly tourist attraction and
to prepare written report on
road safety practices for
Tourism Planning and
Hospitality Management
(TPHM) courses, Faculty of
Languages and Management,
International Islamic University
Malaysia (IIUM)
Expectation of outcome
By providing evidence of
sustainable road system, this
project hopes to redefine
policies for road management
in Malaysia, especially safety
aspect for pedestrians and
cyclists.
Market Analysis
1. Kulliyyah of Languages and Management, International Islamic
University Malaysia.
- Incorporating the study on road safety into the current syllabus
of education in Tourism Management course.
2. Korea Tourism Organization
- Promote the entire 1,621km bicycle path as a tourist destination
especially to cycling enthusiasts and Halal market for Muslim
travellers.
3. Property sector companies
- Provide avenue to incorporating bicycle lanes in city
development.
Cycling and South Korea
Completed in 2012, South Korea’s extensive
bicycle path built along the Korea’s main rivers
is to be envied. Completing the entire route
entitled cyclists to be rewarded with stickers,
medals and certificate as a memento.
This extensive traffic-free paths is an example
of pedestrian and cyclist road safety features
that help in reducing the possibility of bike-car
collision in the country and lowering carbon
footprints emission.
Endorsement
The 5000km between Malaysia and South Korea is one
of the obstacles that stands between our dream and our
scheme.
Help us to initiate our first step in realising our project!
This cycling project aligns with the virtue of giving back
to the community. The outcome of this project will make
important social and professional contributions especially
to the research community of IIUM. By providing fund
for this project, your establishment does not only help
improving road safety policy in Malaysia, but also to the
academic sector in our country.
Financial
Management
This project was calculated to accommodate the request
from students for 10 days trip. We have prepared our
estimation based on the requirement of equipment and
living cost for the participants.
