Rebus Puzzles and Function Problems

This document contains a rebus puzzle and word scramble with hidden meanings to guess, as well as several math word problems involving functions. The problems ask the learner to: 1) Represent an income tax payment schedule using a piecewise function 2) Find fare amounts for train and parking using given per unit rates in their function rules 3) Solve the word problems by understanding, planning, solving equations, and checking their work The goal is for learners to practice solving problems involving different types of functions.

PROBLEM SOLVING
INVOLING FUNCTIONS
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learner will
be able to solve problems involving
functions.
Steps in Problem Solving
1. Understand the problem.
2. Plan the solution.
3. Solve the equation(s).
4. Check.
Problem 1
Problem 1. Cesar charges ₱25.00 for every page of
encoding work. In addition, he charges ₱8.00 per
page of printed output. Write a function that will
provide the amount for encoded pages and printed
work. How much will Cesar charge for 33-page
encoding printing work?
Problem 2
Suppose that the community tax law reads as follows.
ANNUAL GROSS EARNINGS COMMUNITY TAX DUE
Less than or equal to ₱120,000. ₱0
More than 120,000.00 but not over ₱240,000 1% of annual income
Over ₱240,000 5% of annual income

a. Represent the income tax payment using a piece-

wise function.
b. What is the community tax due given an annual
gross earning of ₱48,340? ₱160,000? ₱ 435,000
Problem 3
A proposed train fare would charge ₱20.00 for the
first 5 km of travel and ₱0.75 for each additional km
over the proposed fare.
a) Find the fare function f(x) where x represents the
number of km traveled.
b) Find the proposed fare for a distance of 45 km.
Problem 4
Problem 3. A mall charges ₱25.00 for the first hour
or a fraction of an hour as parking fee. An
additional ₱25.00 will be charged for every
additional hour, or a fraction of an hour of parking.
a. Write a function rule for the problem.
b. How much will be charged a car owner who
parked his or her car from 7 am to 1:00 pm?
