ESTEEM - Note & Tutorial

A structural plan contains information about the size, shape, materials, and loading capacity of a building or structure. It is prepared by structural engineers based on architectural drawings. The plan uses scales, symbols, grids, and elevations to convey this technical information. It includes layout plans for floors, beams, footings, piles, columns, roofs, and more. Engineers can use software like ESTEEM to design structural plans digitally by inputting elements in a graphical user interface and then analyzing the design. The software generates 3D models, reports, and drawings of the final structural design.

NOTES
What is a structural plan/drawing?
■ A structural plan is a set of engineering/structural drawings of how a building or
structure will be built.
■ The plan is prepared by registered professional structural engineers and informed by
architectural drawings.
■ Usually contain information such as size, shape, loading capacity and types of
materials used.
Terms in structural plan/drawing.
■ SCALE : Scale is the indication used to symbolize the exact measurement of a
construction plan. Type of scale used in plan;
i. Site Plan (Pelan Tapak) – 1:200
ii. Layout Plan (Pelan Susunatur) – 1:50
iii. Detailed Drawings (Lukisan Butiran) – 1:25
■ SYMBOL : Symbol are used to inform the plan reader about the materials used in
the drawing plan.
■ GRID : Grid is the line use as a reference for drawing construction plan.
■ ELEVATION : To show the view of plan. (top, front, right)

• Concrete cover = 50 mm
• Concrete cover is the distance
between the surface of
embedded reinforcement and
the outer surface of the

• The function of the cover is to
protect the steel reinforcement
bars (rebars) from
environmental effects to
prevent their corrosion.
