Self Introduction
I am Dilraj S.S Mistress from Govt Sr.Sec.
School Kotla Bajwara. I am working in this
institution since 2001.My educational
qualification is M.A M.Ed.
Objectives

• To improve the vocabulary of the students.


• To help them to learn correct English.
• To inculcate among the students the ability
to learn grammar with creativity.
• Attractive Presentation for quick grasp of
the topic.
Skills Required

 Students should have prior knowledge of


noun and pronoun.
 Students should have knowledge of
normal vocabulary.
 Students should be well versed with the
simple concepts like singular, plural
forms of verb.
Definition of Adjective
An adjective is a word which qualifies a
noun or pronoun. In other words, an
adjective adds something to the meaning
of a noun or pronoun.
Examples:
– this noble appearance
– some money
– a clever boy

Possessive Adjectives Exclamatory Adjectives

Emphasizing Adjectives
Adjectives of Quality
 These show the kind, quality or state of a person or
thing.
 Examples:
 a red pen
 a good boy
 a great poet
 Forest is green
 The adjectives great, foolish, green, intelligent are
adjectives of quality because they denote the quality
of nouns-poet, boy, forest, student respectively.
Adjective of Quantity
• These adjectives show how much of a thing is
meant.
• Examples
– a few deers.
– some money
– sufficient fuel
• The adjectives some, enough, a little are
adjectives of quality because they denote quality
of nouns-pen, water, money, and work.
Adjective of Number
 These adjectives show how many persons or
things are meant or in what order they stand:
 Examples:
 one, two, three
 first, third
 all many, several ,certain ,few, some
Demonstrative Adjective
• These adjectives point out the person,
place or thing concerned.
• Examples:
– This, that, these, those, such, same
Distributive Adjective
• These denote things taken one at a time
each, every, either, neither etc.
• Examples
– Each student must enter the hall in time.
– Neither boy is trustworthy
– On either side of road lie long field of barley.
Interrogative Adjective
• These are used with nouns to form
questions ;e.g ,which, what ,whose etc
Examples;
– Whose book is this?
– Which colour do you like?
Possessive Adjective
• The words our, my, your, her, his, its, their
etc when used attributively before a noun,
are called possessive adjective.
• Examples:
– This is my house.
– How is your baby?
Exclamatory Adjective
• They are used with nouns in exclamatory
sentences.
• Examples:
– What a fine day?
– What good luck?
– What a sweet rabbit?
Emphasizing Adjective
 These emphasize (lay stress on or focus) the
particular object.
 Examples:
 This is my own house.
 His very name makes me angry.

 Here own and very are Emphasizing Adjectives as


they emphasize the noun or pronoun to which they
belong.
Degrees of Adjective
 Positive degree
 Comparative degree
 Superlative degree
Positive Degree
• The Positive degree is used when no
comparison is implied:
• Examples:
– Ram is a good boy.
– Delhi is a big city.
– Rose is a beautiful flower.
Comparative degree
• The comparative degree is used to
compare two persons or things:
– Sita is better player than Geeta
– Delhi is bigger than Chandigarh.
– Second house is better than first one.
Superlative Degree
• The superlative degree is used to compare
more than two persons or things:
• Examples:
– Ram is the best boy in the class.
– Delhi is the biggest city in northern India.
