Hypothesis Testing Regression Control Charts

Hypothesis testing is used to determine if a hypothesis about a population parameter or relationship between variables is true. It involves collecting data, running statistical analyses using specialized software, and interpreting the results to quantify the probability that differences occurred by chance and confirm whether changes are having a meaningful impact. Hypothesis testing has broad applications and benefits, such as informing decision making and determining which factors most influence outcomes.

HYPOTHESIS TESTING
 A hypothesis is an assumption or
assertion about a population parameter
or a theory about the relationship
between one variable and another, or
between multiple variables.
 Because a hypothesis is initially
unproven,use a hypothesis test during
data analysis activities to determine the
probability that a given hypothesis is
true.
HYPOTHESIS TESTING
Statistical hypothesis testing can be
performed in many ways, depending on
the objective and the data available.
The test is designed to verify if there is a
statistical difference between various
predictor(s) or factor(s) of interest.
The test can verify if the means or the
variances of two or more groups are equal
and if there is a correlation between two
or more variables.
HYPOTHESIS TESTING
To determine the probability that a given
hypothesis is true:
1. Determine the probability that the
results of the hypothesis occurred by
chance,
2. Determine if a real difference exists
between two populations using
relatively small samples, and quantify
risks associated with the hypothesis
test.
HYPOTHESIS TESTING
Statistical hypothesis Benefits
1. Provides necessary information for
decision making
2. Confirms whether improvements or
changes in a process are making a
difference
3. Helps to determine which
factor/predictor has more impact on
the response (output)
HYPOTHESIS TESTING
Statistical hypothesis Benefits(Contd..)
4. Easily performed with a specialized
statistical software package
5. Broad range of applications in various
types of businesses and processes
HYPOTHESIS TESTING
How to Use
Step 1.  Collect data on the factors and
output of interest (must be variable data).
Step 2.  Enter data in a statistical
application spreadsheet.
Step 3.  Run the statistical analysis as
needed.
Step 4.  Interpret results in the table
provided by the software.
Step 5.  Validate results by running
additional trials if necessary.

Relevant Definitions
Predictor or factor: Variable of a process
that has an effect on the outcome. For
example, saltiness of water depends on
the ratio of water and salt. The higher the
amount of salt, the saltier the water will
be.
