Computer Hardware and Software Basics

Hardware components include physical parts like I/O devices for input and output. Software includes system software that makes up the operating system with files, drivers, and services, as well as application software for specific tasks. Data storage includes ROM for high-speed reading and RAM for random access reading and writing. A microprocessor is the central processing unit that coordinates all computer functions and tasks.

Introduction to Computer

Hardware and Software

Hardware
• Hardware components of a computer system are the electronic and
mechanical parts.
• Physical Components
I/O Devices
• Input Devices
• Output Devices
Software
• Software are the programs and other operating information used by a
computer
• System Software
System software refers to the files and programs that make up your
computer's operating system. System files include libraries of functions,
system services, drivers for printers and other hardware, system
preferences, and other configuration files.

• Application Software
Application Software is a computer program designed to perform a group
of coordinated functions, tasks, or activities for the benefit of the user.
Examples of an application include a word processor, a spreadsheet,
an accounting application, a web browser, a media player, an
aeronautical flight simulator, a console game or a photo editor.
Storage
• ROM (Read Only Memory)
memory read at high speed but not capable of being changed by
program instructions.

• RAM (Random Access Memory)

is a form of computer data storage. A random-access memory device
allows data items to be accessed (read or written) in almost the same
amount of time irrespective of the physical location of data inside the
memory.
Microprocessor
• is a computer program designed to perform a group of coordinated
functions, tasks, or activities for the benefit of the user. Examples of
an application include a word processor, a spreadsheet, an accounting
application, a web browser, a media player, an aeronautical flight
simulator, a console game or a photo editor. And it is the heart of the
system unit
