WORKING
DRAWINGS
comprehensive set of
drawings used in a
building construction
project: these will include
not only architect's
drawings, but structural
and other engineering
drawings as well.
ARCHITECTURAL WORKING DRAWING
SITE PLAN
A site plan similar to
floorplan, it is a
drawing on the
horizontal plane which
shows the design
objective but includes
the entire property
upon which the house
is placed.
Site plan lay out:
• Property line dimensions
• Set back lines
• Location of the house on
the site
• Landscaping
• Paving
• Public utility
connections
• Grading for drainage
• Any additional buildings
SITE LOCATION
MAP
A Location or Site
Location Plan is a
map drawn to a
suitable metric scale
which shows the
location of a
development or
proposed
development.
FLOOR PLANS
The most fundamental
architectural diagram, a
view from above showing
the arrangement of spaces
in building in the same
way as a map but showing
the arrangement at a
particular level of a
building.
Technically it is a horizontal
section cut through a
building (conventionally at
four feet / one meter and
twenty centimeters above
floor level), showing walls,
windows and door openings
and other features at that
level. The plan view
includes anything that could
be seen below that level: the
floor, stairs (but only up to
the plan level), fittings and
sometimes furniture.
ELEVATIONS
Elevation drawings is
a two-dimensional
representation of the
design objective on
the horizontal plane
and shows the design
on the vertical plane
Elevation drawings can
include front, rear, and each
of the two sides of the
structure. Like floorplans,
elevations provide a place to
label certain design features
and materials used as well
as reference details and
sections that are included. It
also includes dimension
lines that correspond
directly to dimensions
included on the floor plan
which relate to the exterior
wall and its features, such as
windows and doors.
FOUNDATION
PLAN
A plan view drawing,
in section, showing
the location and size
of footings, piers,
columns, foundation
walls, and supporting
beams
The information on
a foundation plan
provides critical
dimensions for
structural support
features.
FRAMING
PLANS
FLOOR FRAMING PLANS
Specify the sizes and spacing of
joists, girders, and columns used to
support the floor. If necessary,
detailed drawings must be added to
show the methods of anchoring
joists and girders to the columns
and foundation walls or footings.
The floor framing plan is basically
a plan view showing the layout of
the girders and joists.
FRAMING
PLANS
ROOF FRAMING PLAN
Specify the sizes and spacing of
joists, girders, and columns used to
support the floor. If necessary,
detailed drawings must be added to
show the methods of anchoring
joists and girders to the columns
and foundation walls or footings.
The floor framing plan is basically
a plan view showing the layout of
the girders and joists.
WINDOW
AND DOOR
SCHEDULE
Window and door schedules
are a convenient way of
presenting complex
information about the different
door and window sizes and
types that are specified on the
contract documents to ensure
proper installation. Drawings
may refer to window and door
schedules by use of a code
corresponding to a door or
window type on the schedule.
DETAILS AND
SECTION VIEWS
Detail drawings go into
greater detail concerning
the foundation, walls, roof,
and special features of the
design to be constructed.
This view includes things
such as interior elevations,
enlarged plans, or
elevations of a particular
feature, and cross sections
They typically show
more specific design
features, more precise
dimensions and specify
the use of particular
materials and
construction methods
SECTION
DRAWING
Section drawings have cross
section and longitudinal section
views. Sections are a type of
detail drawing that cuts through
the vertical or horizontal plane. It
can show the overall, general
view of the whole house or a
larger view of a particular portion
of a wall, foundation or roof
connection. Sections also show
detailed dimensions of specified
materials and their placement in
the construction process.
