Graphical Data Representation Guide

This presentation introduces various methods of graphically representing data: bar diagrams, pie charts, histograms, frequency polygons, and cumulative frequency polygons. Bar diagrams show categorical data using rectangular bars of varying heights or lengths. Pie charts represent percentages as slices of a circle. Histograms plot frequency on the y-axis against class midpoints on the x-axis. Frequency polygons connect the midpoints of data classes to their frequencies. Cumulative frequency polygons plot cumulative totals on the y-axis against class upper limits on the x-axis. Real-world examples of using these graphical methods include comparing sales data, wildlife populations, election results, and student grades.

GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION OF DATA
Contents
• Bar Diagram
• Pie – Chart
• Types of Frequency Distribution & Histogram
• Frequency Polygon
• Cumulative Frequency Polygon
Bar Diagram

• A diagram or chart that presents categorical data

with rectangular bars with heights or lengths
proportional to the values they represents.

• Width of the bar uniformed

• Gap between bar to bar uniformed
• Bars can be horizontal or vertical
Bar Diagram
Pie - Chart
• What is Pie – Chart ?
A pie chart is a circle that is divided into
areas or slices.

How to find out percentage and angle in

pie chart?

• Percentage =

• Angle =
• Use of pie chart in our daily life -
For Example :
• We use pie chart to compare every thing
in percentage. Like sales, wildlife
population, election results, students
grades, study per subject in a day etc.
Graphical Representation of Frequency Distribution

Frequency Distribution

Histogram Frequency Polygon Cumulative Frequency

Polygon
Histogram
• A Histogram is a graph in which the class midpoints or
limits are marked on the horizontal axis and the class
frequencies on the vertical axis.

• The class frequencies are represented by the heights

of the bars and the bars are drawn adjacent to each
other.
Histogram
Frequency Polygon
• What is frequency polygon?

A frequency polygon is a graphical form of

representation of data.

• What is need for frequency polygon?

For frequency polygon we need frequency in y-axis and

mid value in x-axis
Frequency Polygon
• Use of frequency polygon in our daily life -
We use frequency polygon for cricket score.
Cumulative Frequency Polygon

The curve that express the cumulative frequency of a distribution is

called accumulative frequency polygon.

• Construction of Cumulative Frequency Polygon

In the construction of the cumulative frequency polygon the upper limit of the
class intervals of the frequency distribution are placed on the X-axis and the
cumulative frequency are represented on the Y-axis.
Cumulative Frequency Polygon
• Use of Cumulative frequency polygon in real life -
It is used for comparing rapid growth in same class intervals of two or more
distribution of data in a graph.
