Introduction
Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structures exhibit distress and damage
Beam Column Joint - critical region
Unsafe design and detailing of joint is dangerous
Retrofitting- increasing seismic resistance of a building
Retrofitting techniques
ferrocement jacketing, epoxy injection, shear wall etc.
Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP)
light-weight, high strength and high corrosion resistance

3
Significance of work
Beam column joint
critical part under seismic actions
intricate reinforcement detailing
shear demands are considerably high due to lateral inertia forces
brittle failures
Retrofitting and strengthening
increase in the applied loads
loss of strength due to deterioration over time
Successful retrofitting technique of depends on strengthening material

4
Need of the study
Beam column joints have a significant influence on the response of the structure
Cost of replacing the deficient structure exceed the cost of strengthening
Retrofitting enhances the load carrying capacity of a structure
Experimental analysis of beam column joint is cumbersome and time consuming
Numerical analysis helps in modeling and analyzing a retrofitted beam column joints

5
Novelty of work
Majority of the literatures experimentally studied the behaviour of retrofitted reinforced
concrete beam column joints
Literature sources available on analytical study of a retrofitted beam column joint is very
less
Analytical studies on the behavior of a beam column joint gives a proper understanding of
its structural behavior and also its importance in a structure subjected to gravity and
earthquake loads
Present study focuses on 3D finite-element analysis of exterior beam column joint
retrofitted using carbon fibre reinforced polymer laminates
Numerical analysis is done using Abaqus software
