Tb05 - Teo Kang Jie - Assignment 1

This document contains a heuristic evaluation of a website called Blinkee.com. It identifies 3 main usability issues with the website: 1. The website uses marketing jargon that would confuse users and affect their ability to understand the products. 2. Some pages do not allow basic navigation controls like back, forward, undo and redo, limiting user control and freedom. 3. The content on pages is not well organized or formatted, straining users' ability to process information. For each issue, it explains how the issue violates usability heuristics, its severity level, and proposes action plans like reorganizing content or adding navigation controls. Screen recordings provide evidence of the issues.

Before:
- Under “Products”, there is a term
called “NEW FLASHING BLINKIES &

After:
- Created a “NEW IN” tab and classify
“NEW FLASHING BLINKIES & NOVELTY”
to “SHOP FLASHING PRODUCTS” and
categorise each product name in a
manner where users can understand.

Usability Test –How, Why, Where

SUMMARY OF BASIC STEPS IN A USABILITY TEST
The basic steps in a usability test comprises of at least seven steps. It is always important to identify the objectives of your research and knowing
what you would want to takeaway from conducting the test. Having task scenarios on the actionable required for your user to call that actions can
determine the success or failure of the test. It is also important to be choosing the right testing method to use as choosing the wrong one could
lead to a different in results to your objectives. Having usability test plan will help to document the steps on each component’s progress.
Recruiting user testers is also very crucial to the test as there are many different test that requires different people to study. Regularly conduct the
testing sessions can benefit the facilitator to be informed of the feedback. Lastly, always write and update a report to conclude your findings on
what went wrong or how can one improve.

2 BENEFITS OF USABILITY TESTS TO BUSINESS

1. It helps businesses to identify the not-so-obvious problems – by conducting tests, businesses will be informed of various problems that they are
unaware of.
2. Businesses having an un-biased study – It helps businesses to grow from having unbiased feedback as feedback is required for businesses to grow
whereas biased feedback will only hinder that process further.

MODERATED TEST UNMODERATED TEST GUERRILLA TEST

- Requires facilitators to be available in - Does not require facilitators to be around - It is an efficient manner to test an interface

The differences between all test are:
Moderated testing usually are more expensive to conduct as it requires real life time situations and environment that participants and facilitator needs to
be present to be guided on the steps and obtain feedback from. Unmoderated simply means almost the opposite of moderated testing – where facilitators
and participants do not need to be guided through for the conduct to work. Whereas guerrilla test is probably the most efficient, fast and cheap method
to conduct a test by taking feedback from responses by target group of people, it focuses more on qualitative than quantitative results.

Reflection on UX Research
From the webinar, I understood that the simple process of UX design comprises of three pillars such as research, ideate
and test. Researching is mainly about empathy and understanding the pain points of people and it is extremely crucial
to understand where they are coming from, so we can uncover the problem. After empathy, ideate comes in when
there are different roles that helps to uncover creativity, brain-storming, sketching and improvise on what could be
done to improve a design. Last pillar is the testing stage, getting feedback from real user will help a team to improve
the designs on hand and work in circle until the team find’s a solution.

The second thing I found interesting would be the different roles in a team which includes, product designer, UX
designer, service designer, interaction designer, visual designer, content designer, front-end developer, user interface
designer and generalist. From this information, I am aware of the career available for people who are keen in this field.

My takeaway from the webinar would be how working as a UX designer is more than just an individual part but rather
working collaboratively with a team of different roles. Furthermore, understanding a simple process of UX design has
provided me a glimpse of what to expect when accomplishing this module.
