Microsoft Office Button:
(File Tab in Old Version)
Office Button is found at the
upper-left corner of the Word
Window. You can use the menu
to create a new file, open an
existing file, save a file, and
perform many other tasks.
The Quick Access Toolbar:
It provides you with access to
commands you frequently use.
(Save, Undo, and Redo buttons),
where user can also customize
quick access buttons.
The Title Bar:
The Title bar displays the title
of the document on which
you are currently working.
E.g. Document1
The Ribbon
The Ribbon is use to issue
commands. It has several tabs;
clicking a tab displays several
related command groups. Within
each group are related command
buttons
The Ruler
The ruler is found below the
Ribbon. You can use the ruler
to change the format of your
document quickly.
The Text Area
The large area below the ruler is called
text area. You type your document in
the text area. The blinking vertical line
in the upper-left corner of the text
area is the cursor. It marks the
insertion point. As you type, your text
displays at the cursor location
The Vertical and Horizontal Scroll Bars
The vertical and horizontal
scroll bars enable you to move
up, down, and across your
window simply by dragging the
icon located on the scroll bar.
The Status Bar
The Status Bar at the bottom
of your window and provides
the current page.
Understanding Document Views:
Draft view is the most frequently
used view to quickly edit your
document.
Web Layout view enables you to
see your document as it would
appear in a browser
Understanding Document Views:
The Print Layout view shows the
document as it will look when it is printed.
Reading Layout view formats your screen
to make reading your document more
comfortable.
Outline view displays the document in
outline form. You can display headings
without the text.
saving DOCUMENTS
1. Always save in familiar location
- Create a folder for multiple documents
2. Be sure to name your file appropriately.
- MS Word will add a file extension to the
name.
3. File names are followed by a period and a
three letter extention. (MS Word = .doc

4. Save As vs. Save
- Save a new document with Save As.
- To update an existing document use Save.
5. Always be sure to make a back up copy.

insert, delete, )

File names can be modified once they
are named by using these tools:
Save As Feature
Shortcut Feature – Right click the file
name with the mouse and select
rename

mouse and select delete
Mistakenly deleted files can be
retrieved from the recycle bin

formatting:
CHARACTER FORMATTING
Font: a group of characters that have a
similar appearance
Font attributes: additions that enhances
your font for emphasis
Font size: the size of characters
CHARACTER FORMATTING
Bold: a formatting option that makes
selected words print darker than normal
Italics: characters are evenly slanted
toward the right
Subscript: Text that has been lowered
vertically
Superscipt: text has been raised
vertically

Underline: a horizontal line that is
placed beneath characters

Alignment: the way lines of text are
arranged.
- full, left, right, center
Full justified: lines of text are both left
and right aligned.
Left justification: alignment that allows
a document to have an even right side
paragraph FORMATTING
Right Justified: alignment that allows a
document to have an even right side.
Center Justification: a Feature when
activated will align the text horizontally
on the line
