TRANSFER OF LEARNING
WHAT IS TRANSFER OF LEARNING?
•The application of skills, knowledge or
attitudes that were learned in one situation
to another learning situation.
(Perkins,1992)
TYPES OF TRANSFER
• Positive Transfer : One skill helps learning of another
Example: Knowledge of mathematics facilitates to learn
physics in a better way
TYPES OF TRANSFER
• Negative Transfer: One skill hinders another
Example: Left hand drive vehicles hindering the learning
of right hand drive
TYPES OF TRANSFER
• Near Transfer: (Specific Transfer) transfer between two
similar context
Example: A student is learning to use a new cellphone that
is somehow similar to the one she had before
TYPES OF TRANSFER
• Far Transfer: (General Transfer) Transfer between
context that is very different to each other
Example: The student may recognize that there is an
organized structure that needs to be imposed on other types
of writing as well, not just stories./
