BALL AND
ROLLER
BEARINGS
INTRODUCTION
A Bearing is a device to permit constrained
relative motion between two parts, typically
rotation or linear movement. When there is a
relative motion between two machine parts,
one of which supports the others. The
supporting member is called Bearing.
TYPES OF BEARING
BALL BEARING - Ball bearing is a common type of rolling
– element – bearing. -Point contact; support radial and axial
loads.
DEEP GROVE BALL BEARING
FILLING SLOT BALL BEARING
SELF ALIGNING BALL BEARING
ANGULAR CONTACT BEARING
DOUBLE ROW BALL BEARING
DEEP GROVE
BALL BEARING
Is one which the balls are
assembled by the eccentric
displacement of the inner ring.
With the inner ring in contact
with the outer ring, as many
ball as possible are placed in
the grooves. The rings are then
centered, and the balls are kept
in position by a separator or
retainer or cage.
FILLING SLOT
BALL BEARING
Theirthrust capacity
is small, these
bearings are used
where the load is
principally radial.
SELF ALIGNING
BALL BEARING
They are recommended for radial
loads and moderate thrust in either
direction. Since the outer race has a
spherical shape, the shaft may pass
through the bearings at a small
angle without causing blinding
ANGULAR
CONTACT
BEARING
They are often used in
opposed pairs and are
suited to preloading.
DOUBLE ROW BALL
BEARING
Are similar to single row ball
bearing except that that each ring
has two grooves. The two rows off
balls give the bearing a capacity
somewhat less than twice that of a
single row.
ROLLER BEARING Roller bearings are used in
rotary applications to replace sliding movement with
low friction, rolling motion. The principal types of
roller bearings are cylindrical, spherical, and tapered.
In general, roller bearings offer higher load capacities than
ball bearings of the same size.
CYLINDRICAL ROLLER BEARINGS
SELF ALIGNING ROLLER BEARINGS
TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS
CYLINDRICAL
ROLLER
BEARINGS
Are made in different
styles and weights but
the bore and outside
diameter are the same as
those given in table for
like bearing numbers.
SELF ALIGNING
ROLLER BEARINGS
With spherical rollers running in a
double grooved inner ring have
curved outer rings that look much
like the outer ring of a self
aligning ball bearing.
TAPERED ROLLER
BEARINGS
The rolling elements are
frustums of a cone so
mounted in the races that
all of their axes interest
at a point on the axis of
the shaft.
