Historical information
The complex history of the Israel-Palestine conflict originated in the early 20th
century with the emergence of competing national identities and aspirations for
the same land. Initially under Ottoman rule, the region saw the rise of Zionism
among Jews and a growing sense of Palestinian identity among Arabs. After
World War I, British control intensified, leading to tensions exacerbated by
Jewish immigration and Arab resistance

Following World War II and the Holocaust, international

support for a Jewish state increased, culminating in the UN's
partition plan in 1947, which was accepted by Jewish
leaders but rejected by Arab states. This led to the 1948
Arab-Israeli War, resulting in the establishment of Israel and
displacement of Palestinians, laying the foundation for
ongoing conflict.
Peace efforts and present
Subsequent wars, such as the Six-Day War in 1967, further shaped
the conflict, with Israel occupying Palestinian territories and
settlements expanding, exacerbating tensions and leading to cycles
of violence and resistance, including Intifadas and Hamas's
emergence.

Peace efforts, notably the Oslo Accords, aimed to establish a two-state

solution, but setbacks, including violence and political extremism,
hindered progress. Today, the situation remains precarious, with ongoing
violence, Israeli occupation, Palestinian suffering, and diminishing
prospects for peace, underscoring the urgent need for resolution to avoid
further destabilization and suffering for both sides.
