Hello

students!
Directions:
1. Divide the players into two teams - Team A and Team B.
2. Select two players from both Teams to be the "actor". The actor
will act out as a teacher or student action with speaking.
3. The actor can choose any teacher-related or student action, such as
writing on a chalkboard, grading papers, or giving a lecture.
4. The team will be given 1-minute to relay the act.
ACTIVITY
Directions:
 The activity will have 4 stations inside the classroom and each station there are
problems given
 The students are task to solve and using the answered equation, they will then seek
for the corresponding words or letters and write on the space provided
 Each group will be task in every station, after solving, proceed to another station
until you’re done
 Show your solutions and write it on the paper given by the teacher.
 The group who finishes first, will have an additional 5 points.

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the period, the students should be able to:

C.
Solve the measures of dispersion of
ungrouped data: range, variance and

MEASURES OF DISPERSION (UNGROUPED DATA)

A measure of spread, sometimes also called a measure of

dispersion, is used to describe the variability in a sample or population. It
is usually used in conjunction with a measure of central tendency, such as
the mean or median, to provide an overall description of a set of data.

RANGE- The range is simply the highest score minus the lowest score.
Formula: R= H-L
Whereas: R- RANGE, H- HIGHEST VALUE, L-LOWEST VALUE
EXAMPLE :
A. 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 19, 22 B. -8, -5, -12, -1, 4, 7, 11
(arrange in ascending order)

RANGE = H-L
B. -12,-8, -5, -1, 4, 7, 11
= 22- 1
= 21 RANGE = H-L
= 11- (-12)
= 11+12
= 23
VARIANCE- Variance measures how far a data set is spread out. It is
mathematically defined as the average of the squared differences from the
mean.

Population Variance
Step 1: Find the mean.
Step 2: Find each score's deviation from the mean. σ2=
Step 3: Square each deviation from the mean.
Step 4: Find the sum of squares. Sample Variance
Step 5: Divide the sum of squares by n – 1 or N.
s2=
STANDARD DEVIATION- The standard deviation is a statistic that measures the dispersion of a dataset
relative to its mean and is calculated as the square root of the variance. The standard deviation is calculated as the
square root of variance by determining each data point's deviation relative to the mean.

Whereas:
σ- standard deviation for Population Standard deviation Sample Standard deviation
population
S- Standard deviation for sample
x- Numerical data σ= S=
𝝁- population mean
-sample mean
N- Population size
n- Sample size
EXAMPLE PROBLEM:
1. With the given sample data, 2, 5, 8, 10, 15 find the range, variance
and standard deviation.

Problem: A customer at Gwendolyn’s coffee shop observed the amount of time in
minutes, that each of the 10 customers spent waiting to receive an order. The
results are recorded below.

3.2 2.7 5.5 3.6 4.4

6.4 8.1 4.9 5.3 5.8

1. What is the range of Gwendolyn’s coffee shop observed the amount of time in minutes?
2. What is the variance and standard deviation of Gwendolyn’s coffee shop observed the
amount of time in minutes?
3. Explain how did you come up with the answer?
Individual Activity: Answer the following ungrouped data and show your
solutions

Conclusions
Venus has a beautiful name and is the second
planet from the Sun. It’s terribly hot, even hotter
than Mercury, and its atmosphere is extremely
poisonous. It’s the second-brightest natural
object in the night sky after the Moon
