INTRODUCTION
• In this presentation I will try to present my industrial internship
experience of the construction work of a three storied residential
building.
• I observed the construction process of super structural parts of a
reinforced concrete building.
• Here I have focused on Brick masonry work, lintel, plastering
and flooring construction process.
OBJECTIVES OF INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
1. To familiarize with proper planning, design and field operations.
2. To know the construction methods adopted for different
construction activities.
3. To get exposure with the management and communication
functions performed with in a construction project.
4. To know how the construction projects are executed based on
the drawing and specifications.

DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS AND
MATERIALS USED
General:
Design method followed is according to IS standards.
Concrete:
53 grade cement and M20 grade designation is used.
Minimum cement concrete ratio of 1:1.5:3 for columns and beams.
Minimum cement concrete ratio of 1:2:4 for other members.
Aggregate:
Fine aggregate: M-Sand and river sand is used.
Coarse aggregate: 20mm down well graded aggregates are used.
Steel Reinforcement:
Dia of the bar is 20, 16,12,10 and 8 mm is used, having minimum yield strength
of 550 N/sq.mm.
Water:
Potable water is used in concrete mix and for curing.
Building blocks:
Modular bricks and wire cut bricks are used.
BRICK MASONRY WORK
Brick masonry is a highly durable form of construction. It is built by placing bricks in
mortar in a systematic manner to construct solid mass that withstand exerted loads.
Flemish bond
• In this type of bond, each course is made of
alternate headers and stretchers. every alternate
course starts with a header at the corner (queen
header). Queen closer are placed next to the
queen header in alternate courses, to develop the
face lap. every header is centrally supported
over the stretcher below it.
• This type of bond is used for construction of
external wall.
Strecher bond
• Longer narrow face of the bricks is called as
stretcher.
• Stretcher bond is also called as running bond, is
created when bricks are laid with only their
stretchers showing, overlapping midway with
the courses of bricks below and above.
• This type of bond is used for construction of
partition wall.
LINTEL
It is fixed over the openings namely doors, windows etc. To support the structure or the
openings is known as lintel. Lintels behave just like beam. They provide bearing for the
masonry above the openings and transfers all the loads acting over the opening to the
supporting walls.
Reinforced concrete lintel
Reinforced concrete lintels are very common in
use. In this type, reinforcement is used to
overcome the low malleable issue in concrete.
RCC lintels can be either precast or cast in situ.
Generally, precast reinforced cement concrete
lintels are used when the lintel span is smaller.
Lintel width should be the same as wall width.
PLASTERING
Plastering is the process of covering rough walls and uneven surface in the
construction of house and other structures with plastic material, called plaster
which is the mixture of cement and sand along with required quantity of water.
Internal Plastering
PLASTERING RATIO:
• Inside plastering = 1:6
• Outside plastering = 1:4
• Ceiling plastering = 1:3
PLASTERING THICKNESS:
• Inside plastering thickness = 12mm to 15mm.
• Outside plastering thickness = 20mm to 25mm.
Ceiling Plastering External Plastering
FLOORING
Flooring is the general term for a permanent covering of a floor, or for the work of
installing such a floor covering. Floor covering is a term to generically describe any finish
material applied over a floor structure to provide a walking surface.
Details of flooring
• Tile size : 2X4 feet (60X120cm)
• Type : Glazed vetrified
• Material : Vetrified
• Thickness : 5-10 mm
• Application area : Home
CURING
The Curing is very much necessary as the concrete attains its 58% strength
in 7 days and 98% in 28 days. So, water should be slugged at least for 7 days
over the slabs and should be watched that it is not dried at any point of time,
because it weakens the strength.
For walls proper water curing should be done, at least three times a day.
For pillars it should be covered with Gunny or strand and it should be
always in wet condition. The Special care in straw curing should be taken while
pipe lining is packed, by means of wire mesh and plastering as it will not be
noticed by many people, which develop cracks.
Column curing by gunny Staircase curing by gunny bags
bags
Slab curing by ponding
CONCLUSION
From the field study report, it is evident that the construction is going
on in full swing using all aspects. It was a wonderful learning experience at
AP CONSTRUCTIONS for 15 days. I gained a lot of insight regarding
several aspects of site. I was given exposure in almost all departments at the site.
The friendly welcome from all the employees is appreciating, sharing their
experience giving their peace to wisdom which they gained in long journey of
their work. I am very much thankful to AP CONSTRUCTIONS for giving me
this opportunity to study a lot of things from the site. I am sure this experience
will help me in my future and in shaping my career.
THANK YOU
