INTRODUCTION

Gas welding is a process that uses a mixture of fuel gas and oxygen to produce a
flame for heating and joining metals together.

The flame melts the edges of the metal pieces to be joined , allowing them to
fuse together. It has been a fundamental method for metal fabrication and repair
for over a century.

Its versatile, portable, and widely used in metal fabrication and repair work.
Types of Gas welding
 There are several types of gas welding processes, including

• 1.OXY- HYDROGEN WELDING:Oxy-hydrogen gas welding, also known as oxy-fuel welding or

water torch welding, is a process that utilizes a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen gases to
produce a high-temperature flame for welding and cutting metals. Hydrogen (H2): 66.7%
Oxygen (O2): 33.3%

• OXY- ACETYLENE WELDING: Acetylene(C2H2): 40% to 50% Oxygen (O2): 50% to 60%

• OXY PROPANE WELDING: Propane (C3H8): 95% to 98%

• Oxygen (O2): 2% to 5%

EQUIPMENT NEEDED

 The equipment needed for gas welding typically includes:

 1. GAS CYLINDERS – CONTAINING FUEL GAS AND OXYGEN

 2. REGULATORS- TO CONTROL GAS FLOW
 3. HOSES- TO DELIVER GASES TO THE TORCH
 4. TORCH- TO PRODUCE THE FLAME
 5. TIPS- TO CONTROL FLAME SIZE
 6. FLASHBCK ARRESTORS- TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS
 WELDING GOGGLES- FOR EYE PROTECTION
GAS WELDING PROCESSES
 1. PREPARATION: clean the metal surfaces to be welded and set up the
welding equipment

 2. IGNITION: open the valves on the gas cylinders and ignite the flame using a
spark lighter

 3. WELDING: direct the flame onto the joint area to heat it until the metal
edges begin to melt. Add the filler metal

 4. COOLING: allow the welded area to cool naturally or use a suitable cooling
method to avoid distortion
APPLICATIONS OF GAS WELDING

 Applications of gas welding are as follows:

 1. CONSTRUCTION

 2.AUTOMOTIVE REPAIRS

 3. METAL FABRICATION

 4. AERO SPACING
