RECOUNT TEXT
“MY HOLIDAY”
Recount text is certain text that tells us about
experiences or events that happened in the past,
and it is retold in sequence story.
Structure :
1. Orientation This section tells us the background of the
story. For example who (involved), where the event or
incident took place, and when it happened. (who, when,
where)
2. Events This section covers events in detail, namely about
how (how) and why (why) the story happened. Events are
told chronologically or sequentially.
3. Reorientation This section concludes the story. Usually in
the form of comments from the author about his
experiences.
The characteristic of recount text:
• Using nouns and pronouns, for example: Teuku
Umar, weapons, soldiers, we, they
• Using action verbs, for example: went, played, spent
• Using the time conjunction, for example: and, but,
after, and finally
• Using the past tense, for example: they went to
Surabaya
• Using adverbs and adverbs of phrases, for example:
in my house, two days ago, slowly
• Using adjectives, for example: brave, strong, smart
My holiday
Last holiday, my family and I spent
one night at the countryside. We stayed in
a small house. It had a big garden with lots
of colorful flowers and a swimming pool.
First, we made a fire in front of the
house. Then, we sat around the fire and
sang together. We were all very happy.
After that, we came into the house and had
dinner. Next, we sat in the living room and
watched a movie. All of us had a good time.
Finally, everybody fell asleep there.
We woke up very late in the morning
and had breakfast. In the afternoon, we
went home.
First, we made a fire in front of
the house. Then, we sat around the
fire and sang together. We were all
very happy. After that, we came into
the house and had dinner. Next, we
sat in the living room and watched a
movie. All of us had a good time.
Finally, everybody fell asleep there.
We woke up very late in the
morning and had breakfast. In the
afternoon, we went home.

TOUR TO EUROPE
Mr. and Mrs. Charly were on a tour to Europe. They
were traveling on a guided tour to five countries. They
were going to travel through the Netherlands, Belgium,
Germany, Switzerland and France for two weeks.
The guide for the tours was a Swiss. On the first
day of the travel, the guide told them to check their
passports, their travelers cheques and their foreign cash.
He told them to keep them safely.
They traveled in a comfortable coach with a toilet,
music, and video. The guide stopped the coach at many
famous places. He explained the cultural importance of the
places. They stayed in big hotels for the night and ate in
the restaurant.
On the way, they stopped at small inns to eat lunch.
In big towns, they went for shopping. They bought many
souvenirs for their friends. They enjoyed the two-week
tour. Though it was tiring but happy.
TSUNAMI
It happened on Sunday Morning, December 26 th 2004. On
that day, I went to the beach in Meulaboh, Aceh.
When I arrived there, I saw many people were enjoying
the beautiful sunrise. It was such a good moment. But, suddenly
we were shocked by a violent shake in the ground . Everybody
was panic. I soon realized that it was a very big earthquake
although it struck in a very short time.
After that, I saw the water became shallow. Then, many
kinds of fish were left behind on the sand. I was astonished by
the view until I realized there was a huge wave moved very fast
and came towards us. It destroyed everything in its way. I did
not realize what had happened until I found myself hanging on a
branch of a tree. On Sunday morning, December 26 th, 2004, a
tsunami hit the coast quickly without any warning. It traveled far
inland and caused serious flooding and loss of life
• I would never forget that day for the entire of my life.
WENT TO LEBAK BULUS BUS STATION
Last week, I spent my holiday in Jakarta. I went
there by bus. My bus departed at seven o’clock sharp
in the morning. In the middle of the trip, the bus
suddenly stopped. I felt afraid immediately. I thought
about bad things that could happen on the street.
Then I saw the driver’s assistant got off of the bus.
After he returned, he told me and the other
passengers that there was a road accident and the
police already handled it. However, my bus could go
nowhere for a while. My bus was trapped in the queue
for about three and a half hours. I finally arrived at
Lebak Bulus Bus Station at dawn. It was the most
tiring trip I ever had.
WENT TO THE CIRCUS SHOW
Last month, Jenny went to the circus with Edison and Shawn.
First, they saw the seals perform. The seals balanced
themselves on tires and rolled round the ring. A seal on a stool
balanced an umbrella on its nose. After that, the trainer fed them with
fish.
The next show was the knife-throwing act. Jenny was afraid to
watch it, so she covered her eyes with her hands. Not long after, it
was the lion’s act. It was the most exciting performance. The lions
jumped through the burning hoops. Everyone held their breath when
the lion trainer put his head into the lion’s mouth.
Finally, it was the clown’s act. Jenny and her brothers liked
the clown’s act best. They look funny with their painted faces and
baggy costumes. One of them swung a pail at Jenny. She screamed!
Scraps of paper flew out the pail and the audience laughed.
At the end of the show, everyone clapped loudly.
