emc272151- Symmetrix: Disk Replace script times out if prompt is not answered

The Disk Replacement script prompts the Customer Engineer (CE) to select OK to enter Unattended
mode. If no reply is made after ten minutes, the script times out and the script does not continue.

EMC Engineering is currently investigating this problem and a permanent fix is still in progress. Contact
the EMC Customer Support Center or your service representative for assistance and quote this solution
ID.

Do not try to spin up the new drive if the script times out. Contact the EMC Customer Support Center for
assistance in completing the script.

Script continue message:

SCRIPT UI error("Script Information", "Message 0x000086A6.0x1002:

Upon Hitting OK, the script will continue and run in unattended mode.
In case of a problem, the script will initiate a callhome, it will place
a message in the "Advisories" tab, and will then stop.

Script error message:

[DiskRepl] End Step DskRpl_Release_CE_Msg STOP. CALL HOME.

Message 0x00002086.0x1003:
Time out error occurred.

emc272355- DMX3/4 - Grey Box - Fixes that are currently loaded on the Symm, will be
eliminated

Greybox: Important note: fixes that are currently loaded on the Symm will be eliminated. This is an
unusual event. This may be a result of a mistake somewhere. Verify if you are loading the correct code.

Online in-family code upgrade.

During an online code upgrade from 5773.155.107 with e-pack 5773_0155/0077 to 5773.163.133, the
above a grey box appears with warning that fixes that are currently loaded on the V-Max will be
eliminated.
Select the option "Show fixes being eliminated" and this will display a logfile called remove_fixes.log.

If the log only contains fix 51109, as per Engineering it is ok to select the option to "Continue Anyway“

Note: Fix 51109 is a debug fix and is no longer needed at 5773.163.133 and above. If any other fixes are
displayed in the remove_fixes.log, then it needs to be investigated further. The step should not be
"Continued Anyway" unless it has been verified that the displayed fixes are not required. Failure to do this
could result in serious impact to the customer. Please escalate to the SSR group if not sure about fixes
being eliminated.

emc269913- Symmetrix VMAXe: Director replacement requirements

VMAXe director replacement requires both a director board and E-Flash module to be ordered

When replacing director assemblies P/N:

• 110-113-413B
• 110-113-448B
• 110-113-472B

…you must order the director board (P/N 303-113-400B) and the E-Flash module (P/N 100-563-451). The
DIMMs from the failed director should be moved from the bad director board to the new director board.
The new E-Flash module must also be installed on the new director board.

emc257920 - Symmetrix VMAX: How to enable Data At Rest Encryption (D.A.R.E.)

June 2011: The Configure New Install script now has a step (RegRKM_init_vars) where it will prompt the
user "Please select the type of installation" with the following 2 choices if enabling DARE:

1. Enterprise Key Server (the Encryption Key configuration will be saved on the external RKM
server).
2. Embedded Key Server (the Encryption Key will be saved on the Service Processor).
NOTE: Select the Enterprise Key Server if the customer is using an External RKM Server and
select Embedded Key Server if the Encryption is built into the Directors.

Refer to primus solution emc270429 for information on setting up DARE with connection to an
External Key Server (RKM).

Processor Utility ([Link]). The Symmetrix Utility ([Link]) is a maintenance tool designed
to aid in the replacement and setup of Symmetrix DMX-3, DMX-3 950, DMX-4, and DMX-4 950 Service

 New version of EMC Script Regulator for 5874 and 5875 - Version
74000016
There is a new version of Regulator available. This version is 74000016 .

We have also provided instructions on how to manually load the latest regulator to those CEs that support
dark sites.

This new version will be packaged with future Enginuity levels of 5874 and 5875.

This version applies to VMax systems running at 5874 and 5875 levels of enginuity ONLY.

 Question and Comments
5875 Totalclear support update. Until a 5875 Totalclear version is available the only
workaround at this tome to erase a box is to follow the 5875 to 5874 Rollback process to
re-image the service processor t 5874 in primus solution emc256647. Then run a config
new install at 5874 (with a valid bin file created at Enginuity 5874).

Notes:
Once the PC is re-imaged to 5874 any SSC Tokens in the Credential Manager database
will need to be deleted and new tokens will have to be created.
Also verify that the service processor once re-imaged is set to the correct time (GMT)
Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London.
