IMAGERY
What is imagery?
Sensory imagery or imagery is a
literary device that writers use to paint
a picture in the audience’s mind.
Often, the imagery created appeals to
the 5 senses: sound, taste, sight,
smell and touch.
Definition: This is imagery
that helps you imagine
sound.
Ask yourself: What can
AUDITORY you hear?

IMAGERY Example:
“The rhythmic beat of the
drums and the lively
strumming of guitars fill the
air during a street parade in
Dinagyang Festival.”
Definition: This is imagery
that helps you imagine
flavor.
Ask yourself: What can you
taste? Gustatory
Example: Imagery
“The crispy skin of lechons in
Balasan’s Lechon Festival,
deliver a mouthwatering
combination of crunch and
juicy pork goodness.”
Definition: This is imagery
that helps you imagine the
visuals.
Ask yourself: What can
VISUAL you see?

IMAGERY Example:
“The vibrant colors of the
sunset in Boracay casts a
golden glow over the
powdery white sand
beach.”
