● Reading is an active process of looking at written
symbols and getting meaning from them.
● It is one of the four main language skills along
with listening, speaking and writing.

● Importantly, reading gives you access to a wealth
of information.
● Even beyond education, it is used in everyday
activities such as reading for information,
instructions, directions and sometimes simply for
entertainment.

phrases and sentences (comprehension)

because the emphasis is on

Speed reading is the process of
rapidly recognizing and absorbing
phrases or sentences rather than
