MARKING SCHEME
Question-A wire is in the shape of a square of side 4.6 cm
which is bent to form a circle . What is the circumference of
the circle? (3 marks)

Ans-
Perimeter of the square = circumference of the circle (1 mark)

circumference of the circle = 4 X side of a square (0.5 mark)

= 4 X 4.6 cm
= 18.4 cm (1 mark)
So, circumference of the circle is 18.4 cm. (0.5 mark)
Question-If the circumference of a circle with radius 3.5cm and
centre O is 22 cm. Find the perimeter of the quarter of the
circle.(4 marks)

Answer-Circumference of a circle = 22cm.

Circumference of quarter = 22 cm÷ 4 = 5.5cm (1 mark)
Perimeter of quarter = circumference of quarter + 2 X radius (1 mark)
= 5.5cm + 2X 3.5 cm (0.5 mark)
=5.5cm +7 cm
= 12.5 cm (1 mark)
So, perimeter of quarter is 12.5 cm. (0.5 mark)

CONSTRUCTION OF A
CIRCLE.

Using Ruler, Compass and Pencil, we can draw a

circle.
Steps for construction:
Suppose we have to construct a circle having
radius 4cm.

Step 1: First fix small, sharpened pencil to the pencil holder arm
of the compass.
Step 2: Open the arms of the compasses so that the needle like
arm and the pencil arm are 4 cm apart.
Step 3: Mark a point O on a sheet of paper and keep the needle
arm of the compasses on the point O.
Step 4 : Rotate the pencil head around the centre point marked
O.

Now, a circle of radius 4 cm is constructed.

If diameter is given. Then divide the
diameter by 2, find the radius and
construct the circle.
MARKING SCHEME
Question-Draw a circle having diameter is 5.6 cm.
measure the radius. (2 marks)
Answer-For correct construction (1 mark)

A B

Radius = diameter ÷ 2
= 5.6cm ÷2= 2.8 cm (1mark)
Question-Draw a line segment XY of length 7cm. At X,
draw a circle of radius 4cm. At Y, draw a circle of radius 3.2
cm. What do you observe? (4 marks)

Answer-
.For constructing line segment XY. (1 mark)
•At X, For correct construction of circle with radius 4 cm (1 mark)
•At Y, For correct construction of circle with radius 3.2cm (1 mark)
•The circles intersect each other at two points. (1 mark)
