Final Defense

This document presents research on the production of hydrophobic and high-adhesion gum-based roof sealants from Acacia sap, highlighting its potential as a sustainable alternative to traditional polymer-based sealants. The study investigates the quality attributes, formulation adaptability, and the impact of varying Acacia sap content on the sealant's properties. Results indicate that lower concentrations enhance water resistance while higher concentrations improve adhesion, with significant differences observed based on the sap content.

ATIONAL
Adhesives and sealants are widely used due to their versatility, but
traditional polymer-based sealants derived from crude oil contribute to
pollution and resource depletion.

Gum Arabic, a natural polysaccharide from Acacia trees, has long been
used in adhesives and various industries, offering sustainable
alternatives.

Research suggests that Acacia sap can serve as a high-adhesion gum-

based sealant with increasing bond, compressive, and tensile strength
over time.

1.1 Hydrophobic Properties
1.2 High-adhesion Properties
1.3 Surface Properties

2. How can the Acacia sap gum-based sealant

formulation be designed to adapt to varying:
2.1 Surface Type
2.2 Stress and Strain Conditions

3. Is there a significant difference in hydrophobic and

high-adhesion properties between differing Acacia sap

CONCLUSION CONCLUSION

• Lower concentrations of Acacia gum enhance water resistance, while higher

concentrations improve adhesion strength, particularly on glass.
• The sealants exhibit the strongest adhesion on glass, moderate adhesion on
plastic, and the weakest on metal.
• They demonstrate durability and adaptability under changing environmental
conditions.
• Statistical analyses confirm that variations in Acacia sap content significantly
affect hydrophobic and adhesive properties.
• These findings provide a foundation for optimizing natural sealants for
various industrial applications.
ECOMMENDATIO RECOMMENDATION

The following recommendations are suggested for future researchers:

[Link] following recommendations are suggested for future researchers
[Link] the Surface Drying Time and Full System Curing Time.
[Link] researchers should conduct long-term weather resistance testing to
determine the sealant’s durability against factors such as UV exposure,
temperature fluctuations, and moisture.
[Link] studies should conduct mechanical testing to evaluate the sealant’s
flexibility, durability and adhesion to different roofing materials.
