PUBLIC RECORDS ACT

OBJECTIVE

 The Act regulates the Management , Administration and


Preservation of Public of Central Government, Union
Territories, Public Sector Undertaking, Statutory Bodies and
Corporations , Commissions and Committees
.
INTRODUCTIO EXPLANATION

1. Section 7 deals with Power of Record Officer
 In the event of Destruction, Alternation , Removal of Records
 The Officer can intervene’s and take charge and appropriate
changes
1. Section 9 Penalty For Contraventions
 Imprisonment not exceeding more than 5 years fine not
exceeding ten thousand rupees or both
1. Section 13 Archival Advisory Board : Central Government to
constitute an Archival Advisory Board to be headed by
secretary Of Union Ministry of Culture.
 Functions:
1. Advice Central Government and UT Administration on
matters concerning administration, management,
conservation and use of public records.
2. Lay down guidelines for training of archivists
3. Give directions for acquisition of records from private
custody
 Deal with such matters as may be prescribed
 Power to make rules over the carryout provisions of this Act
CONCLUSION

 Protects Valuable historical and administrative information.


 Supports effective governance and informed decision making
 Facilities Public access to government records
 Prevents unauthorised destruction or misuse of public
documents
 Enhances the role of the National Archives of India in record
keeping
