The post- colonial period, starts in 1946 up to the
present after the country gained independence from
the United States, is marked by the challenges of
nation-building, navigating a complex political
landscape, and redefining cultural identity while
grappling with the legacies of both Spanish and
American colonial rule. This era witnessed efforts to
establish a stable government, address social and
economic inequalities, and foster a sense of national
identity amidst Western influences.
