ABSTRACT
The increasing problem of plastic waste has led to the search for
sustainable alternatives, such as bioplastics. This study aimed to
develop bioplastic using banana stem fibers, coconut coir, cassava
starch, and waste paper and assess its durability, tensile strength,
and water resistance. The bioplastic underwent durability testing by
measuring the maximum weight it could support, tensile strength
evaluation through a tear resistance test rated by respondents, and
water resistance analysis by tracking its water absorption over time.
Results showed that the bioplastic exhibited high durability, with an
average load-bearing capacity of 12.33 kg, strong tensile strength
rated as very strong (5/5) by all respondents, and excellent water
resistance, absorbing only 96 grams of water over five hours. These
findings confirmed that the combination of banana stem fibers,
coconut coir, cassava starch, and waste paper significantly improved
the bioplastic’s mechanical properties, rejecting the hypothesis.
Based on these results, the study recommended further research on
optimizing material ratios, testing biodegradability, incorporating

CONCLUSION
The study found that the bioplastic was
highly durable, had strong tensile strength,
and exhibited high water resistance. The
results confirmed that the combination of
banana stem fibers, coconut coir, cassava
starch, and waste paper significantly improved
its properties, rejecting the hypothesis.
RECOMMENDATION
Based on the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are
offered for consideration:
1. Future researchers can experiment with different ratios of banana stem
fibers, coconut coir, cassava starch, and waste paper to optimize the
mechanical properties of the bioplastic.
2. Conduct a study on the biodegradability rate of the bioplastic under various
environmental conditions to determine its decomposition time compared to
conventional plastics.
3. Investigate the potential of adding other natural polymers, such as chitosan
or alginate, to enhance the durability and flexibility of the bioplastic.
4. Perform additional mechanical tests, such as elasticity, impact resistance,
and heat tolerance, to further evaluate the bioplastic’s performance for
practical applications.
5. Analyze the environmental impact of large-scale production and disposal of
this bioplastic to ensure sustainability and minimal ecological footprint.
