Introduction
People tend to follow those whom they see as
providing a means of achieving their own desires, wants and needs. So leadership is willingness of people to follow.
Leadership is an art (skill) of influencing (based on some characteristics) other people so they will work willingly towards the achievement of goals.

Leadership and motivation are closely interconnected.
By motivation, one can appreciate better what people
want and why they act as they do. By leadership, one not only appreciate but also motivates other people to get their desires, wants and needs.
Definition of Leadership
Leadership has different meanings to different authors. Some of them define as
Heinz Weihrich defined leadership as
The art or process of influencing people so that they will strive willingly
and enthusiastically toward the achievement of group goals
According to Bruce Bagley
Leadership is the ability to guide and motivate a group of people to a
common Purpose
Herb Rubenstein defined as
Leadership is the creation and fulfillment of worthwhile opportunities by honorable means
Lanny Copeland defined as
A leader is someone who is sought out for information, guidance, and consultation, not boisterous or flamboyant, but is greatly respected
Leadership does not encouraged to develop only willingness to work but also willingness to work with zeal and confidence.
Zeal is ardor, earnestness, and intensity in the execution of work. Confidence reflects experience and technical ability.

Leader Someone who can influence others and who
has managerial authority

influencing a group to achieve goals

Types of leaders
Bureaucratic leaders:
usually require this type of leader in the organizations to ensure quality, increase security and decrease corruption. Leaders that try to speed up the process will experience frustration and anxiety.

Charismatic leader :
leads by infusing energy and eagerness into their team members. This type of leader has to be committed to the organization for the long run.
Autocratic leader :
Has the power to make decisions alone, having total authority.

Democratic leader :
Listens to the team's ideas and studies them, but will make the final decision. laiss ez-faire ("let do")leader: Gives no continuous feedback or supervision because the employees are highly experienced and need little supervision to obtain the expected outcome
Why Leadership is necessary?
There are four reasons for requirement of ongoing leadership which are as under
Incomplete
organizational structure External change Internal change Motivate and inspire
Incomplete organizational structure.
. Leaders are needed to structuring the
tasks, decide who should do what, and delegate work assignments, level. Leaders help the people they lead to accomplish their collective goals.
External change.
organization exists in a changing
environment. As the external environment changes, leaders are needed to identify the strategic mission of the organization and help it adopt to its changing environment.
Internal change.
Leadership is needed to coordinate the
efforts of diverse organizational units, particularly during periods of rapid growth or decline. Leadership is necessary to solve internal conflicts and settle differences of opinion.
Motivate and inspire.
Organizations require leadership stems
from the need to motivate people and maintain their involvement in the organization. Individuals are not permanent fixtures within the organization.

The type of influence required for effective leadership is not the same for all leaders. Depending on their level in the organization, different cognitive and affective skills are required for leaders. These basic leadership roles are following
