Join us virtually on Tuesday, August 12th for the Gathering of the Herd in celebration of World Elephant Day!
We will have two presentations: “The Story of the First PGDay” with Federico Campoli and “Join the Herd! How to Get Involved with the PostgreSQL Community” with Stacey Haysler.
First up is the untold story of how we started with the idea of having a barbecue—and we ended up organizing the first PostgreSQL conference in Europe!
Nowadays, there is a PGDay or a PostgreSQL conference almost every month all around the world.
Back in 2007, there were only two or three conferences in the Americas and in Japan.
The PGDay 2007's initial idea was to have an informal meeting of friends to advocate for PostgreSQL and maybe a barbecue.
However, things quickly came out of the organizer's control, and then the PGDay 2007 became the first European PostgreSQL conference.
Federico Campoli, who had the original Idea and was actively involved in organizing the conference, will walk the audience through the adventure of organizing the PGDay 2007 from scratch, and how this momentous event sparked the birth of PostgreSQL Europe.Stacey's talk will come next. Like humans, elephants are herd animals, so Slonik is the perfect emblem for the PostgreSQL community! With millions of happy users, PostgreSQL has an unfathomably large community, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. There’s a place for you in the herd, and we can help you find it in this talk!
