iFixit’s Switch 2 Joy-Con teardown tells a familiar joystick story.

Once again confirming what many original Switch owners feared, iFixit’s teardown of the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons reveals a familiar joystick design that uses a resistive material that could lead to joystick drift again if it wears down over time.

The new Joy-Cons also don’t look any easier to disassemble and repair. You’ll need a tri-point screwdriver to remove screws, and iFixit had to use a pick and isopropyl alcohol to dislodge the batteries.

Bad day for crafters and physical media lovers.

The company that owns the biggest sewing pattern brands — Simplicity, Butterick, McCalls, and Vogue — has been sold to a liquidator, per the Craft Industry Alliance. That’s troubling news for those of us that sew and prefer physical patterns, but there’s also a concerning knock-on effect: the company owns the last large-scale tissue printers in the country.

A few years ago I wrote about the painstaking efforts to preserve sewing patterns and fashion history. I suspect that work is now even more urgent.

Aventon takes control of Gocycle e-bikes.

JW Zhang, founder of US-based Aventon, now has control over UK-based Gocycle — the financially troubled maker of premium, fast-folding electric bikes. “Aventon is going to help Gocycle unleash its true potential and bring more exciting products to people in the future,” said an unidentified Aventon spokesperson speaking to Cycling Electric.

What comes next is unclear, but it should accelerate global expansion for both brands once the deal is settled, and finally make Gocycle’s CX lineup of electric folding cargo bikes a reality.

Switch up your webcam.

You can use your iPhone (and likely Android phone) as a webcam for the Switch 2 if you connect them via a USB-C to HDMI cable and HDMI converter cable — total cost about $30.

No need to buy a dedicated webcam just for the new console, which are typically worse than the cameras on modern phones anyway.

Samsung leaks its own foldable names.

And no, they’re not exactly surprising. But even so, a Galaxy Store listing for “Samsung Internet Browser for Fold7 and Flip7,” spotted by GalaxyClub, does give the game away a little, especially since we’re not expecting the new phones to launch for at least a month.

Of course, that doesn’t preclude extra versions, like the Fold Ultra Samsung teased just this week, or its rumored cheaper Flip FE.

Black Myth Wukong is coming to Xbox on August 20th.

That’s exactly a year after its initial release in 2024 on PS5 and PC. I haven’t played the game myself, but my colleague Ash Parrish did last year.

AI Mode can now make interactive data visualizations.

Google’s new feature in Labs will create the visualizations to “help bring financial data to life for questions on stocks and mutual funds,” according to a blog post. You can ask Google a follow-up question, too, and “AI Mode understands what to research for you.”

Here’s a video of the feature, from Google’s post:

Today I’m tasting with the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo made the original Switch’s game cards taste terrible, coating them in a bitter chemical called denatonium benzoate. So we had to know... do Nintendo Switch 2 cartridges taste better? Time for a taste test! And while we’re at it, why not add a button battery coated in the same stuff, a Nintendo DS cartridge, and a 3DS cartridge too? Don’t try this at home, kids.

Switch 2: Not all webcams work.

We aren’t having great luck, and Reddit’s seeing mixed results too. Though Nintendo assured the public that “you can use... any compatible USB-C camera you’d like,” our USB-C toting Logitech Brio 4K, Opal Tadpole and DJI OP3 aren’t working, even while a nine-year-old Logitech C922 with USB-A does when docked.

Redditors say the Elgato Facecam, Insta360 Link, Sony ZV-E10, and Sony’s various PlayStation cameras don’t work, while aging Logitech and Microsoft Lifecams apparently do. Modern cameras that seem compatible: Razer Kiyo Pro, Logitech StreamCam, Logitech Brio 300. We’ve pinged Nintendo, and are calling in more cameras.

The Oversight Board says Meta has an AI deepfake problem.

On Thursday, the Oversight Board overturned Meta’s decision to leave up a Facebook post showing an AI deepfake of Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo Nazário in an ad for a gambling app. The ad was viewed more than 600,000 times and received more than 50 reports.

The Oversight Board points to a larger problem at Meta, saying it is “likely allowing significant amounts of scam content on its platforms” and that reviewers aren’t “empowered” to enforce the platform’s policy against deepfake scams.

Another cargo ship carrying EVs caught fire.

The ship, operated by UK-based Zodiac Maritime, was abandoned off the coast of Alaska after sailors were unable to contain the blaze. According to The Register, the ship was loaded with around 3,000 vehicles, 800 of which were EVs. Nearly two dozen sailors were rescued by the US Coast Guard. I’m reminded the last time this exact thing happened in 2022.

Baseus’ car charger with retractable USB-C cables is now available.

We called the Baseus PrimeTrip VR2 Max car charger the best charger at CES 2025, and now nearly five months after it was first announced it’s finally available with a small price bump to $49.99.

The charger connects to a vehicle’s auxiliary power outlet and provides up to a total of 240W of power (up to 105W to a single port) across two retractable USB-C cables, plus an additional USB-C and USB-A port.

If you buy something from a Verge link, Vox Media may earn a commission.

    DeviantArt’s co-founder made a digital art display... and it’s $22,000.

Angelo Sotira’s display, called Layer, is designed to house a kind of “generative AI art,” which TechCrunch explains involves artists writing their “own software to create digital AI artworks that change over time.” The display comes with a dedicated GPU capable of rendering “infinite variations” of generative art in full resolution.
