Under the WGEO program in Qatar, the UNFCCC–WGEO Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) for MENA & South Asia convened a technical session on “Unlocking Article 6: Accelerating Carbon Market Readiness in the MENA Region,” as part of the Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change (QNDCC 2025). The dialogue brought together government representatives, private-sector leaders, and experts to exchange insights on advancing transparent, inclusive, and high-integrity carbon markets across the region. Complementing this effort, WGEO’s Youth Platform hosted the Youth Roundtable Session, themed “Mentoring the Future – Nurturing Young Leaders for GCC Climate Action.” The session united inspiring mentors and young leaders from across the GCC to explore innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership — empowering youth to shape actionable climate strategies and amplify their voice in decision-making spaces. Reflections from QNDCC 2025: Unlocking Article 6 in the MENA Region Today’s technical session, “Unlocking Article 6: Accelerating Carbon Market Readiness in the MENA Region,” organized by the UNFCCC–WGEO Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) for MENA & South Asia, brought together government representatives, private-sector leaders, and climate experts as part of the Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change (QNDCC2025). The discussions offered a deep dive into Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, exploring its mechanisms, investment opportunities, and practical steps toward operationalizing carbon markets in the region. From enhancing readiness and governance frameworks to strengthening private-sector engagement, participants exchanged valuable insights on building transparent, high-integrity, and inclusive carbon markets. The Youth Roundtable Session in Qatar, themed “Mentoring the Future - Nurturing Young Leaders for GCC Climate Action”, moderated by Mr. Khaled Alazbe, brought together inspiring mentors and passionate youth from across the region for an engaging dialogue on leadership, innovation, and impact. We were delighted to welcome representatives from the UNFCCC–WGEO Regional Collaboration Center (RCC) for MENA and South Asia, Ms. Ana Vukoje and Mr. Umamaheswaran Krishnan, who shared their insights and extensive experience in advancing climate policy and capacity building, guiding youth participants, addressing their questions, and shedding light on critical pathways to empower the next generation of climate leaders and strengthen their meaningful engagement in the global climate agenda Through open exchange and shared experiences, participants explored how young leaders can overcome challenges, drive entrepreneurship, and shape actionable strategies for climate action across the GCC, under WGEO’s youth empowerment framework and beyond.
