The deep-rooted strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany was clear in my engagements with Chancellor Friedrich Merz and senior German leaders in Berlin this week. Together, we explored new opportunities to strengthen cooperation across our economies, including in energy, industry, and advanced technology. Our engagements build on a trade partnership that reached almost AED 50 billion in 2024 (non-oil) and, in the first half of 2025, UAE exports to Germany have already doubled year on year. The newly established Germany UAE Business Council will help accelerate this progress - deepening partnerships, driving investment, and translating shared ambitions into tangible outcomes. As the UAE’s Special Envoy to Germany, I look forward to continuing this momentum and further strengthening our partnership to drive sustainable growth.

Saudi aramco has acquired an additional 22.5 percent stake in Rabigh Refining & Petrochemical Co. from Sumitomo Chemical for US$702 million, raising its total ownership in Petro Rabigh to 60%. This transaction includes a US$1.4 billion capital injection by Aramco and Sumitomo to partially prepay debt and strengthen Petro Rabigh’s balance sheet.
