In Zambia’s rain-fed farming zones, droughts often devastate crops and income. During one such drought, farmer Monica Chikonkoto lost her maize and soybeans, putting her income and family at risk. Now, through a training program supported by the World Bank Group via IFC, she learned to diversify with poultry and vegetables. This shift protected her income and ensured her family’s food supply. Across Zambia and Malawi, this program is helping 30,000 farmers overcome unpredictable weather, manage risks, and create sustainable jobs while strengthening food security across rural communities: http://wrld.bg/rk2a50XeArz

Over the next decade, 1.2 billion young people in developing countries will become working-age adults. That’s why job creation is at the center of The World Bank Group’s mission. Creating jobs at this scale requires innovation in how capital flows. 🌍 Read Makhtar Diop's op-ed in the Financial Times as he outlines how a new model of investing - anchored in #securitization - can unlock investment, create jobs, and build resilient economies: http://wrld.bg/M4NB50Xe9lq #WBGMeetings

Barriers in land ownership, finance, and training have long excluded women from full participation in agribusiness. In Paraguay, The World Bank Group through IFC is working with Agrofértil to scale the Mujer con Valor program. As more women access training, lead farm decisions, and adopt sustainable practices, rural economies grow stronger, more jobs are created, and #foodsecurity improves. Northern Bangladesh's rice farmers have long struggled with outdated mills that meant lower prices, higher waste, and lost income. Today, The World Bank Group support is enabling agtech solutions that modernize rice processing, cut storage time and reduce waste, and even convert rice husks into electricity. Read further to see how this is boosting income for farmers, creating new jobs beyond the fields, and improving food security: http://wrld.bg/oLCB50XbPmu #AgriConnect #agriculture #Farmers #Farming #agribusiness #agrifinance #agrifood #foodsystems #agriconnect #smartfarming #smartagriculture #agritech #jobcreation #jobs #employment #smefinance #SMEs #privatesectorgrowth

Deeply grateful to the Ministers and CEOs who joined our 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 “𝐔𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐬” at #WBGMeetings. One message resonated throughout our discussions: job creation must be at the center of our work in fragile settings. Jobs are more than a source of income—they are a foundation for stability, dignity, and hope. Yet, the path to creating jobs in these environments is far from simple. Local businesses grapple with insecurity, informality, and limited access to finance. International investors often hesitate, deterred by high risks. Domestic #MSMEs are the backbone of employment and resilience, but they cannot do it alone. Governments, the #privatesector, and development partners must join forces to build enabling environments, foster inclusive growth, and unlock private investment. At #WBGMeetings, Ministers shared concrete steps their governments are taking—from fiscal reforms and infrastructure investments to targeted support for MSMEs and inclusive value chains. They also called on The World Bank Group to deepen its support—through reforms, financing, and guarantees that catalyze private investment and build resilient economies. CEOs highlighted the real impact of collaboration with The World Bank Group, demonstrating how targeted support and de-risking mechanisms are driving job creation and improving the business climate in some of the world’s most challenging contexts. This conversation reaffirmed a simple truth: 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑛 𝑔𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑜𝑟, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑑𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑝𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟, 𝑤𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑡—𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑑𝑖𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑡 𝑒𝑛𝑣𝑖𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠. @WBG_Dev4Peace
