How is AI changing how software is developed? ✨ Highlights from the TEDAI Vienna panel: * Swami Sivasubramanian (VP, AWS) shared how he's leaning into the next frontier of software development: from generative AI to agentic AI. To illustrate the power of agentic tools, Swami described how one of his 2-pizza teams automated a large-scale update (migrating from JDK 8 → 17) using Q across Amazon’s codebases saving 4,500 developer years (!) and hundreds of millions of dollars. * Lukasz Kaiser (co-author of Attention is All You Need) reflected on how models like OpenAI's Codex have already saturated many “hard” benchmarks, and the next frontier is enabling coding agents to learn on real-world problems in environments where it's safe to make mistakes. * Vladislav Tankov (JetBrains AI) said developers are seeings gains in code generation, and are excited about progress, but practical concerns still remain for large enteprises with complex legacy codebases. Both Vlad and Swami agreed that often code gen is ≤ 30% of what a developer does. The code bases that are built to last require longer-term thinking, carried context, and thoughtful design. 👏 Kudos to Michelle Frost for her excellent questions and pacing! #ai #software #thedrivetodevelop
