🌟 Celebrating Allied Health Professions Day – AHA Strong, AHA Proud 🌟 Today, we stand tall and celebrate the incredible impact of the Allied Health Professions—a diverse, dynamic, and essential force in health care. And at the heart of this celebration, we shine a spotlight on the Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) who bring compassion, skill, and dedication to every corner of our communities. At AHANA, we honour the AHAs who work in hospitals, homes, disability services, aged care, rehab, and beyond. Whether you're a sole trader, a clinical assistant in Queensland, or part of a public health team—you are essential. You are the hands that help, the voices that advocate, and the hearts that heal. This day is more than recognition. It’s a rallying cry. 🔹 For visibility. 🔹 For respect. 🔹 For career pathways. 🔹 For the future of the AHA profession. We are not just support—we are professionals. We are not just part of the team—we are the backbone of allied health delivery. And through AHANA, we are building a national movement that celebrates, connects, and empowers AHAs across Australia. So today, we say thank you. To every AHA who shows up, steps up, and lifts others up—you are the reason we celebrate. We are AHAs, and we are essential. Interprofessional Learning: The Future of Collaborative Care Health care is complex—and no single discipline can meet every patient need alone. That’s why interprofessional learning opportunities are not just valuable; they’re essential. When Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) learn alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, dietitians, and nurses, we create more than shared knowledge—we build shared accountability and shared vision for patient care. Why does this matter? ✅ Better Outcomes: Teams that learn together deliver safer, more holistic care. ✅ Stronger Teams: Collaboration fosters respect and breaks down silos. ✅ Innovation: Diverse perspectives spark creative solutions to complex problems. AHAs bring unique skills and insights that complement clinical expertise. By embedding them in interprofessional education—whether through joint workshops, simulation training, or case-based learning—we empower every team member to contribute at their highest level. Let’s stop thinking in terms of “my role” and start thinking in terms of “our impact.” Because when we learn together, we lead together. 👉 How is your organisation creating these opportunities? 👉 Share a story where collaboration changed the game for your patients. #AlliedHealthAssistants #InterprofessionalEducation #CollaborationInCare #HealthcareInnovation #TeamBasedCare

🔍 National Workforce Forecasting: Why AHAs Must Be at the Centre of the Data Conversation 📊 As the health care landscape evolves, one truth becomes clearer every day: data drives decisions. From funding models to service design, workforce planning to policy reform—data is the compass guiding our future. But here’s the challenge: Allied Health Assistant (AHA) data is often missing, misrepresented, or misunderstood. 💥 It’s time to change that. National workforce forecasting is a powerful tool. It helps predict future Allied Health needs, identify service gaps, and shape sustainable models of care. Yet without accurate, visible, and meaningful AHA data, we risk designing a future that overlooks one of the most essential parts of our workforce. ✅ AHAs are not just support staff—they are skilled, adaptable, and essential contributors to patient care, service efficiency, and workforce sustainability. ✅ We need forecasting models that reflect the real impact of AHAs across disciplines, settings, and scopes of practice. ✅ We need to be counted, coded, and consulted in every workforce planning conversation. 📣 To every AHA, manager, and policy-maker reading this: advocate for better data. Push for visibility. Demand inclusion. Because if we’re not in the data, we’re not in the future. We are AHAs, and we are essential. Let’s make sure the numbers say so. #AlliedHealthAssistants #AHAProfession #WorkforcePlanning #HealthCareData #FutureOfHealthCare #WeAreEssential #AHANA #CanberraHealthServices #HealthWorkforceStrategy

This morning on Larrakia Country we were delighted to launch HumanAbility’s National Workforce Plan 2025 with the support of our partners at the Industry Skills Advisory Council NT - ISACNT. HumanAbility CEO Emma King OAM, Executive Director Training Products Warren Hill, Executive Director Research Workforce and Government Relations Olivia Greenwell and Executive Director Strategic Engagement and Communications Amy P. were privileged to join Amelia Nuku CEO of ISACNT, and her team including Ida and Yaam. We were really pleased with the attendance of valued representatives from government and industry, including Chrissy Zelley, Ministerial Advisor to the Hon Jo Hersey MLA. We thank all the sector leaders who contributed to today’s discussion. Our Workforce Plan 2025 is a shared roadmap to address labour shortages, close skills gaps, create clearer career pathways and build more inclusive, sustainable workforces. It reflects insights from training package reviews, research, and extensive consultation across Australia, including the perspectives of regional and remote communities. The event reinforced the importance of engaging deeply with communities beyond Australia’s major metropolitan centres and why regional and remote perspectives are essential to building skilled, sustainable workforces. The sectors we represent, aged care and disability services, children’s education and care, health, human services, and sport and recreation, employ more than 3.2 million Australians. That is one in every five workers. These sectors are the fastest-growing part of our economy, but more than that, they carry an enormous social responsibility: to ensure every Australian has the opportunity to live a good life. As Emma emphasised: “If we get this right, we’re not just building a workforce. We’ll be building a stronger, healthier, fairer Australia for generations to come”. 🔹 It’s time to stop overlooking the backbone of our allied health services — Allied Health Assistants (AHAs). 🔹Across hospitals, community clinics, and aged care facilities, AHAs are delivering hands-on, person-centred care that drives better outcomes, improves access, and strengthens the sustainability of our health system. Their impact is real — but their recognition is not. 🚨 This must change. AHAs are not just support staff. They are skilled, capable professionals who deserve a voice in shaping the future of healthcare. Their exclusion from national workforce strategies and aged care reforms is a missed opportunity we can no longer afford. 💥 Advocacy for AHAs is not optional — it’s essential. 💡 Inclusion in workforce planning is not just fair — it’s smart. With rising demand in aged care and community health, AHAs are uniquely positioned to: Extend the reach of allied health professionals Reduce wait times Deliver culturally safe, localised care But without structured career pathways, recognition frameworks, and investment in training, we’re leaving potential on the table. 👵🏽 Aged care reform must include AHAs. As we redesign aged care to be more person-centred and integrated, AHAs must be explicitly included in: Models of care Funding mechanisms Quality standards Their role in reablement, restorative care, and wellness-focused interventions is too valuable to ignore. 📣 Let’s raise our voices — not just for recognition, but for representation. Let’s ensure AHAs are seen, heard, and planned for in every policy, every reform, and every workforce strategy moving forward. 👉 If you believe in a stronger, more inclusive health system — share this message, amplify the advocacy, and stand with AHAs.

Hi🌟 Reflecting on the 2025 National Allied Health Conference 🌟 What an incredible few days in Adelaide at the National Allied Health Conference 2025! As the Allied Health Assistant Profession Lead for Canberra Health Services and Chair of Allied Health Assistants' National Association Ltd (AHANA) I was deeply honoured to represent and advocate for the vital role AHAs play in our health system. This year’s conference was more than just a gathering—it was a movement. A movement of passionate professionals, bold ideas, and collaborative energy focused on innovation, inclusion, and impact. 🔹 Information: From groundbreaking research to practical case studies, the sessions were rich with insights that will shape the future of allied health. AHAs were front and centre in conversations about workforce development, patient outcomes, and integrated care. 🔹 Networking: I connected with inspiring leaders, emerging voices, and dedicated peers from across Australia. These relationships are the foundation for stronger collaboration and shared progress. 🔹 Recognition: The AHA role is evolving—and being recognised more than ever as essential to multidisciplinary teams. Through AHANA and our growing national presence, we’re amplifying the voice of AHAs and driving forward professional development, career pathways, and policy inclusion. I leave this conference feeling energised, empowered, and excited for what’s ahead. Let’s keep the momentum going. Let’s keep advocating. Let’s keep building a future where AHAs are not just included—but celebrated. 💬 If you’re passionate about allied health, workforce innovation, or the AHA profession, I’d love to connect and continue the conversation. #NAHC2025 #AlliedHealth #AHAProfession #AHANA #HealthLeadership #WorkforceInnovation #CanberraHealthServices #Collaboration #RecognitionMatters Corrie Ramsay Lucy Whelan Danielle Ryan Ned Jelbart Samantha Hunter Sue Fitzpatrick Paul Gibson Peter McCloud Mary Johnson Anita Hobson-Powell (CAHO) Carol McKinstry Richard NankervisChelsea Hillenaar Kylie Saccotelli Amy Nussio

🔷 AHAs: Strengthening Rural Health, One Team at a Time In the heart of Australia’s rural and remote communities, where access to healthcare is stretched and services are scarce, Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) are quietly transforming lives. They’re not working in isolation—they’re integral members of multidisciplinary teams, supporting physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and more. They help deliver care that would otherwise be out of reach for many Australians. But here’s the challenge: 📍 In these underserved areas, AHAs often face limited supervision, fragmented support, and unclear career pathways. 📍 Despite their dedication, they’re frequently overlooked in workforce planning and policy. And yet—they show up. - They guide patients through rehab exercises. - They support therapy sessions with empathy and skill. - They help keep allied health services running where they’re needed most. 💡 When AHAs are properly supported, the entire team benefits: ✅ Clinicians can focus on complex care ✅ Patients receive more consistent, hands-on support. ✅ Communities gain access to services that would otherwise be unavailable. It’s time to recognise AHAs not as assistants, but as essential contributors to rural and remote healthcare teams. - Let’s invest in their training. - Let’s build supervision models that work. - Let’s give them the respect and recognition they’ve earned. Because when AHAs thrive, entire communities thrive.
