Fresh threads, real impact: new clothes reaching those who need them most 💖👚 Thread Together turns excess into empowerment, offering brand new clothes and real choice to those facing hardship. We were excited to welcome the CEO, @Anthony Chesler, to our Thread Together Maylands Hub along with 35 guests to discover more about the multiple pathways for clients to access the clothing service. While Anthony was here we also took a trip out to Boorloo Bidee Mia Wungening Aboriginal Corporation with our mobile wardrobe to distribute clothing and shoes to residents who have recently experienced homelessness. Clothing does more than shield us from the elements—it shapes our confidence, dignity, and drive. Thread Together was founded on the belief that access to quality clothing can open the door to brighter futures for those doing it toughest. Anti-Poverty Week sparked powerful conversations across Western Australia—stories of struggle, resilience, and the urgent need for change. It was a week of honest reflection on the societal choices that fuel disadvantage, and a collective push toward meaningful solutions for those doing it toughest. Now is the time to turn reflection into resolve. Whether you're in government, business, community services, or simply someone who cares—there’s a role for all of us in dismantling the systems that entrench poverty. I’ve shared my reflections on the week and the path forward. 👉 ⏰ Throwing it back to last Monday when we attended the SOLD! Who Broke the Australian Dream Perth Screening co-hosted by Shelter WA and Everybody's Home Campaign at Luna Leederville! 🎥 🍿 We were proud to partner with St Patrick's Community Support Centre in sponsoring this powerful documentary screening—a sharp, witty, and solutions-focused exploration of Australia’s housing crisis. The film unpacks who dismantled the dream of secure housing and how, together, we can rebuild it before it’s too late. Our General Manager of Advocacy & Strategy, Sara Kane, joined in a dynamic panel discussion featuring Margaret Quixley from Everybody’s Home, Lived Experience Advocate Emily Elliott, and @Alice Pennycott of Circle Green Community Legal. Ready to spark change in your community? Click the link below to access Shelter WA's toolkit, your guide to hosting a screening, starting meaningful conversations, and advocating for housing justice.✨🏘️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g7pKx4qk

Behind every statistic is a story. Behind every story, a face. During Anti-Poverty Week (13-19 October), Together in this: Connecting communities with support, a portrait photography series ‘Eye Contact’ by Phil England was displayed at Lakeside Joondalup highlighting the lived experiences behind poverty, homelessness and housing insecurity. In 2024, over 358,000 people in Western Australia lived in poverty — that’s 1 in every 8. But poverty and homelessness aren’t faceless. They look like someone’s parent. Someone’s sibling. Someone’s friend. This exhibition brought those stories to light, reminding us to see the humanity behind the numbers. Let’s continue to stand together to end poverty and homelessness in WA. Join the No Place for Poverty movement to help create change. ✊🧡 Anti-Poverty Week City of Joondalup No Place for Poverty

🫶 Supporting WA Parents at the Ngaluk Waangkiny 'Us Talking' PCWA Staff Gathering 🗣️ From September 24–26, Parenting Connection WA (PCWA) hosted a dynamic forum at Ascot Kayak Club, packed with powerful moments and practical learning. The event opened with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Trish Wall, followed by inspiring sessions led by Marketa Reeves, Sylvia Artoin, and Aden Date, and a rejuvenating self-care movement workshop with Emma Robson. Participants explored interactive data tools that map youth wellbeing, discovered how improvisation and cognitive science unlock the power of play, and gained practical communication skills to better connect with parents and communities. PCWA provides free, inclusive support for parents and caregivers across Western Australia through local workshops, groups, and one-on-one consultations tailored to community needs. Starting this month, Foodbank WA Bunbury will welcome an onsite Emergency Relief and Food Access (ERFAS) Financial Support Worker—offering free financial counselling alongside food assistance. Financial hardship often brings other challenges and having access to broader support can make all the difference. We’re proud to collaborate with Keystart, Financial Wellbeing Collective, and Foodbank WA to help more people take meaningful steps toward financial stability and long-term wellbeing. This is about meeting people where they are and walking with them toward a better future. #CommunitySupport #FinancialWellbeing #WAInitiatives #CollaborationMatters #AnglicareWA #FoodbankWA
For many families, visiting Foodbank WA is about more than putting food on the table, it’s also a step towards finding broader support. That’s why Keystart have partnered with Anglicare WA, the Financial Wellbeing Collective and Foodbank WA to fund an Emergency Relief and Food Access (ERFAS) Financial Support Worker in Bunbury. Starting this October, an ERFAS Financial Support Worker will be onsite three days a week to provide free financial counselling and additional support to people experiencing financial hardship in WA's South West. This initiative builds on a pilot already running at Foodbank Perth Airport and means more people in regional WA can access the right support when they need it most. The policymakers we met during our recent Canberra trip didn’t waste any time heading to the West! Senator Sue Lines, President of the Senate, and Hon Ged Kearney MP, Assistant Minister for Social Services and the Prevention of Family Violence, recently visited our Kununurra office to see firsthand the incredible work happening across the East Kimberley region. Our Kununurra office delivers essential support services tailored to the unique needs of local communities including family counselling, FDV coordinated response and outreach, Parenting Connections WA, and support for separating parents. These programs play a vital role in strengthening families and fostering resilience. We’re excited to welcome more decision-makers to WA to witness the impact of these services and the powerful work we’re doing to uplift those facing challenges and help build a brighter future for all.

Behind the scenes at our Service Manager’s Conference 🎬 🤝 🏆 At Burswood on Swan, two of our Board Members, Service Managers from across WA, and key changemakers from Anglicare WA came together to exchange ideas, spark inspiration, and shape the future of our work. This year’s conference centred on our newly developed strategy—exploring how we’ll bring our purpose and values to life in meaningful, lasting ways. We also took time to celebrate the heart of Anglicare WA through the Values Awards, honouring those who consistently go above and beyond, living our values every single day. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this energising and purpose-driven event. It was a powerful reminder of the collaboration and commitment that drive us forward. 🧡
